This track record led Ambit GPC to receive an exclusive mandate from the Poonawalla family in 2023 to launch Poonawalla Vision Fund I under a Category II Alternative Investment Fund structure. The fund was initially endowed with Rs 500 crore, which was invested in eight leading companies. Since inception, this initial portfolio has delivered an IRR of over 40%.
Encouraged by the fund’s early performance, PVF I opened to external investors in the fourth quarter of 2025. The fundraising process was completed within three weeks, with the fund attracting commitments from a mix of global and domestic institutions, family offices and ultra-high net worth investors. The fund closed at the predetermined limit of around Rs 1,000 crore.
The fund follows a private market strategy that focuses on mid- to late-stage, institutionally backed and profitable companies. The investment universe includes BFSI, consumer and business services, with the flexibility to invest in IPOs, pre-IPOs, QIPs and select listed opportunities. The approach emphasizes collaboration with category leaders who demonstrate strong foundations and clear pathways to long-term value creation.
Commenting on the fund’s closure, Amrita Farmahan, CEO of Ambit GPC, said the pace and quality of fundraising reflected investor confidence in the company’s investment philosophy, sourcing capabilities and execution discipline. She added that the oversubscription underlined the opportunities that India’s private markets offer for research-driven and disciplined investing.
While the fund’s closure marks an important milestone, Ambit GPC said PVF I is entering its next phase of implementation. The company plans to further grow the portfolio by backing high-growth companies, building on its sectoral expertise and long-standing relationships within India’s private market ecosystem, to support the next generation of market leaders.(Disclaimer: Recommendations, suggestions, views and opinions expressed by the experts are their own.
