Amazon broke jobs in his book department, including on the Goodreads Review and Kindle units, the company said Thursday. The retailer, based in Seattle, said that fewer than 100 employees were being affected and the move was intended to improve efficiency and to streamline the activities. “As part of our ongoing work to make our teams and programs work more efficiently, and to better adapt to our business route map, we have made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles within the book organization,” said a Amazon spokesperson in a statement. Amazon has made pieces of cuts, the most recent in its devices and services, as well as his Wondery Podcast Division and shops and communication staff.

CEO Andy Jassy carries out an initiative to reduce what he has described as an excess of bureaucracy at the company, including by reducing the number of managers.

During the first quarter of this year, Amazon added around 4,000 jobs compared to the fourth quarter of last year, according to a disclosure last month. Amazon shares closed 0.3 percent higher on Thursday and have fallen by 5.6 percent this year. The job loss in the book department were first reported by Business Insider.
