Wellington has extensive experience playing in the Utilita Bowl with Southern Brave in the Women’s Hundred. The Adelaide native is second in the league’s list of leading wicket-takers over five seasons – and joins after a successful campaign with Somerset in the inaugural women’s Tier 1 season earlier this year.
Wellington has played one Test, 14 ODIs and eight T20Is for Australia so far. She has not represented the Women in Yellow since 2022. Wellington, an aggressive leg-spinner and a handy batsman, is expected to be available for Hampshire throughout the summer.
After signing for Hampshire, she expressed her excitement about the challenges ahead. She also hoped her experience playing in the Women’s Hundred would help her excel in England.
“I’m really excited to be joining Hampshire this coming season. I’ve had a great time at Utilita Bowl in my two years at Southern Brave and I’m looking forward to meeting familiar faces and making new memories, which will hopefully result in trophies at the end of the summer,” Wellington told ESPNcricinfo.
Regional director of women’s cricket, Adam Carty, celebrated the signing. He called Amanda a friend of the club and hoped her vast experience as a player and impressive record in England would be beneficial for Hampshire.
“We are very pleased to sign Amanda-Jade for the whole of next season. She is a friend of the club and a very experienced cricketer, who has an excellent record with bat and ball in England, having played effectively in the Hundred and in Tier 1. We look forward to welcoming her back to Utilita Bowl in 2026,” said Carty.
Wellington currently plays in the Women’s Big Bash League for Adelaide Strikers. She has taken eight wickets in as many matches, at an average of 21.87.
