Mr Tan founded the company in Perth in 2019 and My Implant Dentist has since grown to seven clinics in Western Australia, including one in Karratha.
Elsewhere in the country, the now 100-strong team operates two clinics in Brisbane and one in Melbourne.
The core of My Implant Dentist is the model for combining surgical, prosthetic and laboratory functions in one place: your own dental laboratory.
According to Mr Tan, the establishment of the laboratory and upskilling of staff were necessary pivot points when Covid disrupted the company’s supply chains and workforce pipelines.
The company decided to reduce its dependence on foreign workers and shifted to offering clinical mentorships and graduate recruitment.
Post-Covid, My Implant Dentist’s biggest challenge has been to adapt to technological advances, including artificial intelligence.
My implant dentist used AI, intraoral scanning, photogrammetry and 3D printing, which led to fewer clinical errors, shorter delivery times and lower costs.
However, Mr Tan did not shy away from acknowledging that there were some pitfalls as the company grew.
My Implant Dentist initially underestimated the complexity of scaling its clinical operations across multiple locations, and strained its systems, leadership and onboarding during early expansion.
The company took the wrong steps by implementing a formalized corporate structure, creating training pathways and investing in experienced leadership.
The investments made after learning these lessons have resulted in My Implant Dentist providing more than 1,000 dental implants annually.
Looking ahead, My Implant Dentist has made plans to open two more Western Australian clinics in WA and another in Queensland in 2026.
