All elite struggles returns to Chicago for a long -term stay in July. The wrestling promotion will perform its first multi-week residence in the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom from July 16 to July 31.
“It is a dream come true to be able to do AEW television weeks in the Aragon Ballroom,” AEW CEO, general manager and head of Creative Tony Khan told the Sun-Times on Monday.
Khan was born in Urbana and went to the University of Illinois, so the Chicagoland area is important to him. But the Chicagoland area is also important for the history of AEW, the co-ownership of Khan and his father, Shad, who is also the owner of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars twice a week.
The emergence of the company started in 2018 when Wrestler’s Cody Rhodes and Matt and Nick Jackson sold out the Nu Arena, who is located in Hoffman Estates. Their efforts caught the attention of Khan, a diehard struggling fan. The buzz generated from the “all in” Pay-per-View of 2018 led to the formation of AEW.
In 2021, AEW held the first edition of “Rampage”, one of the weekly shows (which has since been canceled) in 2024, in the United Center.
Since the launch in 2019, AEW has risen to the second largest wrestling promotion in the United States behind WWE. AEW has been working with Warner Bros. since 2019. Discovery to broadcast his weekly shows, including “AEW Dynamite” and “AEW Collision” on TNT and TBS.
“I am so excited for what is coming,” said Khan. “We have great fans, great support and this has been the best year of AEW television from the start of the year so far.
“I would never try this in a city where we did not have the most support; that is why Chicago is a perfect place to try this. It will be the first residence we did in 2025, and I think it will be something that we can really bring to Chicago.”
AEW’s Chicago Residency contains three tapings of “Dynamite”, the flagship show that is broadcast on Wednesday, and three editions of “Collision”, which broadcast on Saturday, sprinkled with special live tapings.
Chicago has an avid fan base of wrestling. It is one of the hotbeders for the promotion and Khan wanted to benefit from that worship. AEW held a residence in Arlington, Texas in 2024 and announced that it will hold a residence in Philadelphia from 27 August. 11.
“Chicago is definitely on Mount Rushmore of Wrestling Cities,” said Khan. “Chicago is without a doubt one of the very first wrestling cities, not only in America, not only in North America, but also all over the world. Chicago is on top of Pro struggling.”
Fans play a special role in wrestling. Their reactions – from the hunters to the cheers – are a large part of the show. Fans add the size of a moment and a hot crowd can change a good time in a great moment and a great moment in an iconic moment.
Khan said that the importance of doing this residence is because he “wanted to maintain this great momentum because 2025 was special.”
He mentioned the names of established wrestlers such as MJF, Mercedes Moné, Toni Storm, “Hangman” Adam Page and others as why AEW was in 2025 can succeed after the promotion fell the assessments and attendance numbers in 2024.
“They have helped us all to get into such a strong position that we are now where I think AEW is doing our very best work at the moment,” said Khan.
In 2024, Variety AEW and Warner Bros. reported. Discovery expanded their partnership with a multi -year contract.
Max is building a library with earlier AEW shows and pay-per-views that fans can view at ease. Part of the scheme also included Max that offer AEW Pay-per-View events at a reduced rate.
This week the Nu Arena in Hoffman Estates is organizing ‘AEW Beach Break’, one of their most important events. The most important event on Wednesday is Samoa Joe opposite the on its way to AEW world champion Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship in a Steel Cage match.
“We have a lot of people who love to struggle and work together for a common goal,” said Khan. “It is a competition. People strive for the top, but we all want to see it successful, even if it is a competitive space. That is what makes AEW a special place … We believe and know that AW is where the best struggle is.”
