Darko Jorgic had a strong semi-final performance today at the Europe Top 16 Cup in Montreux, Switzerland. His 3-1 victory this morning over Benedikt Duda sealed his ticket to the final. The other semi-final saw brother versus brother as Alexis Lebrun won the first game 11-9 and then carried that momentum for a 3-0 win.
Both Darko Jorgic and Alexis Lebrun have had a lot of success in this event, and despite neither being the top seed, it wasn’t a huge surprise that they both made deep runs. Jorgic won this event in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Alexis won last year and has started his own winning streak after today’s performance. Alexis Lebrun won the first two matches and traded the last two matches for the 3-1 victory, successfully defending the title he won a year ago.
On the women’s side, Germany’s Sabine Winter was the top seed, and she performed to those expectations. She defeated Xiaona Shan 3-0, defeated Maria Xiao 3-1 and then dominated Ying Han 3-0 in the semifinals. Once in the Final it was a truly dominant performance from start to finish, defeating Bernadette Szocs 11-4, 11-4, 11-4 for the 3-0 win.
