An ex-foe of Alex Pereira is not surprised that “Poatan” regained the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship by knocking out Magomed Ankalaev.
Pereira had lost the £205 gold to Ankalaev in March. He got his revenge in the main event of UFC 320. “Poatan” quickly stopped Ankalaev in the opening frame.
During an interview with MMAFighting.comJiri Prochazka explained why Pereira’s victory was not shocking to him.
“No, no, I wasn’t that surprised,” Prochazka told MMA Fighting. “Because when I saw Alex in the [UFC Performance Institute] and I saw how he was in shape and how his training was going. And yes, I saw Alex’s ghost and I saw Ankalaev’s ghost, and then I said to myself, ‘Man, this is a different story than before.’
“Their first fight, what I saw was really like that, I said to myself, ‘Man, that’s a bad thing about him, because he’s just kind of holding himself back a little bit. So I’m glad he won, but that’s it.’
Prochazka suffered two defeats to Pereira, both title fights. Prochazka also competed on the UFC 320 card and scored a comeback knockout victory over Khalil Rountree.
Prochazka has said he hopes to get a third chance to prove he can beat “Poatan.” Currently, Pereira is looking for a heavyweight fight against Jon Jones on the planned UFC White House card. UFC CEO Dana White has publicly said he does not plan to discuss fights for the event internally until February 2026.
White has also said he would prefer if Pereira stayed in the light heavyweight division. Rising rival Carlos Ulberg has emerged as a potential challenger for Pereira. A trilogy fight between Pereira and Prochazka cannot be ruled out, despite the fact that the rivalry has been one-sided so far.
