Alex Pereira was happy to see the skills of a former kickboxing opponent successfully translate into the Octagon on Saturday. Pereira’s former Glory kickboxing foe Dustin Jacoby took on Julius Walker in a light heavyweight match Saturday at UFC Vegas 113. Walker defeated his former training partner Jacoby multiple times in the first round. However, Jacoby dropped Walker in the second round and followed with accurate ground-and-pound, forcing the referee to intervene.
The glory days
Pereira was nostalgic while watching the fight and congratulated Jacoby on his victory. “Poatan” also called for his former foe to be included in the official UFC light heavyweight rankings.“Incredible work [Dustin
Jacoby] put some respect on his name and put him on the rankings!” Pereira wrote on Instagram: “Nostalgia from the glory days, I would like to see him in the rankings to show the evolution that has happened in another sport! Chama.”
Pereira (13-3) knocked out Jacoby (22-9) in the first round of their Glory kickboxing match in 2014. While Jacoby began juggling between kickboxing and MMA soon after, Pereira made his MMA debut in 2021. “The Hanyak” is currently on a three-fight knockout streak that could land him in the Top 15 rankings. Meanwhile, Pereira recently regained his light heavyweight title against Magomed Ankalaev and is currently in line for a matchup against Jon Jones.
