Alcaraz takes a clear lead in the battle for the end of the year 1

Carlos Alcaraz is in a big position to claim ATP end at the end of the year 1, presented by Pif Honors for the second time after his victory at the US Open.

Alcaraz did more at Flushing Meadows than to lift the trophy and World No. 1 to be recaptured in the PIF ATP ranking. He also took an impressive lead in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, the season-to-date classification, which serves as a measuring stick for the battle at the end of the year 1.

Alcaraz now has an advantage of 2,590 points compared to his most important rival, second placed Jannik Sinner, in the live race. No other player is within 6,000 points of the Spaniard.

The US Open Final was a big chance for Sinner to close the gap on Alcaraz and to determine the stage for an intense end of the year 1 in the last two months of the season. If the sinner had defeated Alcaraz on Sunday, there would have been a swing of 1,400 points in his favor.

Instead, Alcaraz is in a perfect position with two ATP Masters 1000 events (Shanghai and Paris) and the Nitto ATP final under the tournaments that remain in 2025. He ended the end of the year 1 in 2022.

Only 10 players have finished more than once at the end of the year 1, and Alcaraz can join Rafael Nadal (5) as the second Spaniard to achieve the performance. Alcaraz and Sinner are the only singles players who have already qualified for this year’s Nitto ATP final.

Ben Shelton and Lorenzo Musetti with the eighth place try to qualify for the first time for the season finale. Musetti is only 80 points ahead of the ninth placed Jack Draper, but the Brit announced on Monday that he will not compete for the rest of the season due to an arm injury.

The next player in the Live Race is the 10th placed Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is 365 points behind Musetti. The Canadian is fresh of its best result of the year, so that the US open semi -final, and has performed historically well after the last major of the season. Auger-Aliassime participated in the Nitto ATP Finals in 2022.
