Alan Shearer looks ahead to Newcastle United versus Brentford.
Come kick-off at 2pm on Sunday, a win for Eddie Howe’s side would be huge.
Newcastle United have won seven of their last eight games against Brentford, home and away.
While United have also won six of their most recent eight games this season, in all competitions.
One of the biggest downsides this season was of course the away game in the Premier League, with no wins from five PL games on the schedule.
While it was seven wins at home (in all competitions) in ten games, the only exceptions were narrow one-goal losses to Liverpool, Barcelona and Arsenal.
Alan Shearer is backing United to make it seven wins from their last nine games today, as well as taking their first Premier League away win of the season. I hope he calls this okay today.
Alan Shearer speaks to Betfair about Newcastle United ahead of this Brentford match – November 8, 2025:
“Newcastle let us down last weekend.
“They were a little better against Bilbao and had to win that match.
“Anthony Gordon went off injured, but I think he was still left out [against Brentford].
“I’m going for an away win and put my faith in Newcastle United again.
“They will have to defend well against set pieces because that is a big strength of Brentford.
“I’m going for an away win because Newcastle needs to improve their away form.
“If you look at the bigger picture, Newcastle are flying in the Champions League with three wins and they are in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. So there is plenty to work on and look forward to, but they need to improve away from home.”
“Last week [against West Ham] was unacceptable, maybe you can accept one per season, but you can’t have more than that.
“With the money spent and the capabilities of that team, Newcastle shouldn’t be stuck in the bottom five or bottom four.”
My thoughts
Including the end of last season, it has been more than seven months and eight away games in the Premier League have passed since the 3-0 defeat to Leicester on April 7, 2025.
However, I’m backing Alan Shearer, who is backing Newcastle United to end this Premier League series without a win on NUFC’s travels.
