Cricket has been the most talked about sport in India in recent years, and expressing an opinion about cricket has been as easy as drawing water from a well. With numerous platforms providing insight into the game and getting your mind going, the former players, pundits and cricket pundits have been wild and unfiltered many times.
This time the gun is aimed at out-of-favour Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, who was caught making a deliberately racist comment during an appearance alongside Dinesh Karthik on Cricbuzz live alongside Saiyami Kher.
During the show, host Saiyami Kher spoke to the two Indian cricketers about the West Indian team after they defeated the mighty England side in their second match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
During the conversation, Ajinkya Rahane can be heard claiming that the West Indian players are not the ones who think too much. He said:I don’t think West Indians think too much about the game. They don’t worry much about planning. They’re not so sure. I enjoy watching their celebrations as they do really well on the field. It’s a very good side.”

Upon hearing this, many took it as a racist comment; However, Mumbai cricketer Ajinkya Rahane’s intention could have just been to highlight the fact that West Indian players believe in playing the game with intention rather than adhering to set theories or strategies.
After this clip went viral on social media, some fans took it as a racist attack on the West Indies team. They felt that Ajinkya Rahane had singled out the Windies cricketers as brainless.
He has therefore been beaten up in every possible way, as some have claimed that this was not expected of him, and some have come forward and say that he has now turned into a “annoying radical.” Another fan said that West Indies could in turn beat hosts India later in the tournament and then mock them using a cross-word version of this statement.

West Indies were the champions when the T20 World Cup was last hosted in India
The last time the ICC T20 World Cup was hosted in India was a decade ago in 2016, and in that edition of the tournament the Windies won their second World T20 title, beating the English in the final. Carlos Braithwaite’s famous quadruple sixes were hit during that match.
Daren Sammy was then captain of the team and now serves as the team’s coach. Even before that, West Indies were crowned champions in 2012 when the ICC T20 World Cup was hosted by Sri Lankans. They had defeated the Indians in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2016.
