Carlos Alcaraz is delighted to return to action at the Cincinnati Open, his first tournament since his first Grand Slam Final loss suffered in Wimbledon to Jannik Sinner. The Spaniard not only wants to make a splash in Ohio, but takes another step in his striving for a return to the number 1 PIF ATP ranking.
“I am really happy with everything I do so far and I will try to keep it the same way,” Alcaraz said on a round table with reporters on Wednesday. ‘[There] Are many things that I really wanted to add to my game to be better in the matches, but at the moment my goal is the same: to be happy, to enjoy my time on and next to the field in the best tournaments we have in the world.
“Of course a goal I have in the competitions [and] Everything just tries to restore No. 1 at the end of the year. So that is my goal in this second part of the year. ”
Sinner will participate in the Cincinnati ATP Masters 1000 event with an advantage of 3,430 points compared to his large rival in the PIF ATP ranking. However, the shortage is not as great as it seems. Alcaraz leads Sinner with 1,540 points in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, which is a good measuring stick for what the ranking will look like at the end of the year.
“I am just very happy to build such a great rivalry against Jannik. Jannik and I, I think we have done great things in tennis in such a short period. I just let people talk about our rivalry or the things we have done for the history books in tennis,” said Alcaraz. “I don’t think of the history we make in tennis. I think we have such a long career to see how far we can go and whether we have already made or have made it [did not make] History in tennis. It is only for the people to discuss. ”
Alcaraz completed a stunning comeback against Sinner in the Roland Garros final to extend his most important championship strike record to 5-0. But after taking the first set in the final of Wimbledon, Alcaraz fell in four sets. He made it clear that it wasn’t long to recover.
“It was new, but to be honest, you have to be ready. I, of course, I didn’t want to lose a final that I played, even more if it was a Wimbledon Final or a Grand Slam final,” said Alcaraz. “But luckily I left the court, I left the court proudly. I left the court smiling only thinking:” Okay, at some point I have to lose a grand slam -final losing. Everyone did it. “So just proud.
‘[There are] Many things that I have to improve from that competition. It took me hours, not even days. So I just have to be grateful for everything I achieve, that I live and in a final of Wimbledon, was more than that. So although I lost it, I just left the court proudly and happy for everything I did. ”
After the loss, Alcaraz took a week off to charge and even stayed away from the gym to ensure that he rested well. Now the World No. 2 Ready to insist on his eighth Masters 1000 title, starting with his opening match against Mattia Bellucci or Damir Dzumhur.
“I have just been to Spain, I spent it with friends with family. Three weeks in the summer at home for me was something that I could not believe, to be honest,” said Alcaraz, who this season has a record of 48-6 according to Infosys ATP statistics … “I just tried to make my spirit most of my spirit there. [which] is a tournament that I like to play. ‘
