In a breakout moment during her Rookie season on the LPGA tour, Miyu Yamashita conquered her first career and her first big title on the Aig Women’s Open 2025. Here is her winner interview and what equipment she used to win the tournament.

Can you tell us how you feel now?

Miyu Yamashita: This was a goal of mine at a very young age to win a big championship, and that is a very satisfying feeling, very special.

Q. I understand that Miyu means that I have a beautiful dream. So can I just ask you if winning the ladies open is part of that dream?

Miyu Yamashita: This has been a goal of mine, something I have worked on all my life, a dream that you could say. It is the result of hard work every day, making changes, making improvements and being able to do it now and calling myself a champion is a very special thing.

Q. When you arrived on the track on Friday morning and saw that it was very quiet and calm, did you know that it was a golden chance to take a big step in the direction of victory?

Miyu Yamashita: Of course, the conditions dictate how you can score around the golf course and make a big difference. On that day to be able to shoot, posting such a good score was something that was fantastic.

Q. What did you know about Wales before you came here this week?

Miyu Yamashita: I knew there was a lot of nature, many wild animals. So to be here in nature and in the countryside there was something I looked forward to and something that was great to experience this week.

Q. Miyu, I know there was a lot of emotion from you when you had that party moment with many other Japanese players. Where did that emotion come from?

Miyu Yamashita: It was a great feeling for them to stay and to celebrate with me, something that was so great for me. Also just something that I appreciate. To let so many Japanese players do so well, something that offers a motivation for me and keeps me going. For all of us to support each other, something that I am really looking forward to in the future is.

Q. In recent seasons there have been a handful of Japanese big winners. If you see that your compatriots are so successful in these tournaments, how much motivated you to go out and achieve your own victory?

Miyu Yamashita: It was great. So great to see Saigo win earlier this year and just push me a little harder. To become a member of that elite group is something that is very unique, and it will be a great feeling.

Q. Now you have a berth in the Hanwha LifePlus International Crown Japan team, Team Japan. How excited are you about that opportunity to represent your country later this season?

Miyu Yamashita: The International Crown is something I aimed for. I really wanted to be part of that team. So that is a possibility that I can really look forward to representing my country and doing as well as possible.

Q. What was it like not to have your best things yesterday and still being able to grind through and still keep the lead?

Miyu Yamashita: As you say, I didn’t have my best things yesterday. After the round I spoke with my father, who is my coach, and we went through a few things, just in my swing and my game, and I am really happy with how I made the adjustments today to win.

Q. Did you go to the practice reach and do you work on some things to feel that you have solved a number of things before you started working today?

Miyu Yamashita: Yesterday after the round we went to the practice range, and it still didn’t feel quite as I thought it should be. When we got home, we were together, we looked at some of the finer details about the swing, found a few points to improve, and today it felt much better alone from the start.

Miyu, thank you very much. We look forward to celebrating you as our champion for the following year.

Miyu Yamashita: Thank you very much.
