I have been working on an article about AI for a while and it is getting bigger and bigger. New AI stories come out every day. I have decided to break the article in a few different parts. That is easier to handle, especially in the summer, where I try to maximize every fun day of again.
About a year ago I asked if blogging is dead. My main reason to write it was that Google had focused the focus of the search results. It was never a level playing field, but until the last few years a small independent brand had a fair chance. Google has gradually added more and more store results. Huge media congl tolomerates, such as Dotdash Meredithstarted gaming the system. They would buy well -known, trusted brands and publish articles that were not exactly relevant to their brands. For example, better houses and gardens can write about how you can get better mortgage interest. They could then sell advertisements on the page to banks that pay good money. Although that is not their specific expertise, they appear for an independent blogger who has been writing about such things for 18 years.
Finally, last year, they added AI overviews. Usually, when I’m looking for information, the AI result is good enough that I don’t have to scroll and discover a new website. When I scroll down, I still get the groceries and large media congregations. They were quite new when I wrote that article last June. My traffic has fallen for another since 80%. It is not a lazy man and money problem. All publishers are taken away. It has been discussed where all hope has been placed CloudflareThat standard AI bots blocks. The idea is that AI -Bots publishers pay to scrape their sites. That may be profitable for me, but I am sure they have had for free for 18 years of my writing.
The future of the lazy man (for now)
As ordinary readers have probably realized, I don’t write much. I usually post quite late in the morning/early afternoon on Friday, so I hardly did an article for the week. I used to earn enough money to qualify this as a job, but now it’s just a hobby. Hobbies simply cannot have the same priority as the other things in my life, such as a growing dog board company, raising children and keeping the house in a sort of order. That is without my other pair of freelance performances and management of our small real estate “Empire” (two properties).
That said, I can’t close the book about something I’ve been doing now for 19 years. I think there is a way to evolve lazy man and money to something that offers more value to readers and earns money. Many bloggers concentrate on their e -mill list. Who should rank for search terms in Google if you have loyal readers who subscribe to get your e -mails? For now, the e -mails are just the regular messages that I write on the site, but over time I can write less on the site and more to that loyal audience. I also have a better chance of doing the audience. So if you want to become a member of the E -Maille list, use this form:
I have a few other thoughts about how I can evolve lazy man and money. One of them is to make a course to sell. Many bloggers did this back 10 years ago. I always wanted to keep my writing free. There is so much information available on the internet (and now via AI) that I think it should be something very special to ask you to give your money. I don’t think I have the time to make something so special at the moment. That can change when my wife will retire in a year or two, or as the children get older and ignore their old husband.
The other way in which I think of evolving lazy man and money is by writing and selling a book. I have a lot of material, writing for 19 years, to work with. Even if 99.9% of my writing has been terrible, the 0.1% of the good things could fill a book. I’ve always wanted to write a book, but it’s something else that takes a lot of time. With AI to help me organize it, it is something that I could even do with a limited time. If AI leaves my blog career, I might as well use it in my favor to become an author. Of course I would be careful not to create any AI slop.
I finally thought about writing a series of blog posts. This is, for example, the first on AI. I have some ideas about some others. There would be more value for readers of this than my usual articles about my financial journey. That said, my next article is probably my financial assessment in August, so they don’t go away.
If you have thoughts, leave them in the comments. Or not. It’s up to you.
