Scott Laughlin: “Dave Pagnotta with us here in the NHL Morning Skate. Now, when we were in Vegas a few weeks ago for the Player Media Tour, Noord -american version, we wondered about (Anze) Kopitar and whether or not this would be his last season.
We also spoke with Adrian Kempe and we wondered about his expansion, or at the moment Dave was missing at De La Kings. Previous contract year that pays him $ 5.5 million in the last year of his deal. 29, looking for a contract extension from the kings, and they also want to create that Sweet Spot. What can you tell us about Kempe and the Kings and where this could eventually end? ‘
NHL Rumors: Will Adrian Kempe put the market for Kyle Connor
Dave Pagnotta: “Yes, well, they hope it ends with a full eight -year extension. That is where they are working. The goal is still to get something done at the start of the season. Kempe told us, Scotty, that, as you know, that ideal, perfect world, he wants to do this with the start of the season.
He does not want to place a definitive timeline and he does not have so far. There is no fixed deadline in itself, but you know, all things equal, the best case scenario, it is done by the seventh. By the time the puck falls on, on the new season. So that is still where they are working.
But because of the landscape and the shift and the big boys there are, you know, the boys we called, (Connor) McDavid, (Kirill) Kaprizov, Jack Eichel, needs a new deal. Kempe that we are talking about now, Kyle Connor and so on and so on. Nobody is locked up. And you know that that is a bit of a factor for some of these negotiations across the board.
I think progress has been made in Winnipeg with Connor. I think there is some progress here in La with Kempe. But because, again from that landscape, and the dollars that shift and we should get used to, fast enough, higher AAVs, higher contracts in the National Hockey League, Kempe, they may have thought, ok, we want to float around $ 10 million to start.
NHL rumors: Adrian Kempe could get $ 10 million on his next contract
Well, okay, some of these negotiations are all about the board. We hear some of the numbers there are. Perhaps it is closer to 11, and you want to achieve that correct real market value, not only now, but also in several years when the contract ends a bit.
So I think Van Kempe is the side of things again, the goal is to still reach a full term, still to do it at the start of the season. You probably look somewhere in that reach from $ 10 to $ 11 million a year. And they just have to find that sweet place. ‘
