Adam Schenk survived bad winds all week at Bermuda’s Port Royal Golf Course to win the Butterfield Bermuda Championship for his first PGA Tour victory.
Facing the PGA Tour’s shortest course and wind gusts of more than 60 mph on Sunday, Schenk held his ground thanks to a unique bag setup without a fairway wood.
Actually, his bag this week exhibits expert levels of gear nerdism.
Let’s start with his eight-year-old Ping G400 driver. The G400 is one that many Ping professionals and non-staffers have clung to for years. Schenk is one of the few professionals who still plays it, but Bernhard Langer is another notable user. He has used a newer G430 Max on and off this season, but the old faithful G400 got a call this week.

That’s something else. While Schenk isn’t one to try out new equipment often, he is one of the most notorious gear changers on the PGA Tour.
An example of this this week is his iron set. At times this year he has used a full set of Ping i210s. But this week he only used it in the 2 through 5 iron and rounded out his set with 6-PW in the Mizuno MP-18 SC. These irons were released in 2018 and 2017 respectively.
Schenk’s Odyssey Tri-Hot Rossie is also likely the oldest putter to win on the PGA Tour this season. Released in 2001, it was the first model to use the “Tri-Hot” name. Just three weeks ago, Odyssey added a putter to the group with the S2S Tri-Hot.
When it comes to golf balls, you can probably guess that Schenk is one of the last remaining users of the 2017 Titleist Pro V1. Brian Harman is another notable user of that ball.
In fact, the only pieces of equipment in Schenk’s bag released this decade are his set of Vokey SM10 wedges.

PING G440 Max custom driver
The G440 driver family (MAX, LST, SFT) is optimized to deliver more ball speed through multiple improvements, including PING’s deepest center of gravity in a driver yet and a shallower, thinner face, while continuing to deliver the game-changing forgiveness expected from a PING driver. The G440 MAX is the most forgiving model and will suit most golfers; available in lofts of 9°, 10.5° and 12° with a three-position adjustable back weight. VERY FORGIVENESS A lighter head weight makes for a heavier back weight. FASTER FACE Shallow, thinner face increases ball speed for more distance and higher launch. SOUND DESIGN New shaping, carbon crown and internal ribs provide a dampened impact experience. FREE-HOSEL DESIGN Saves weight to lower the center of gravity and increase forgiveness. Provides more flex on the side of the face for consistent ball speed across the face.

Axles: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour edition X100

PING i240 Custom irons
The Tour-inspired i240 enhances our popular Players technology, offering extra forgiveness, along with the control, look and feel that will appeal to a wide range of skill levels. It is PING’s highest launched Players model, which gives golfers more control and the ability to consistently hit their distance numbers and stop the ball close to the hole. A new ABS badge in the true ‘cavity-back’ design is 8.5g lighter, and combined with an elastomer insert provides more weight distribution to the perimeter to increase moment of inertia in the mid and long irons. This contributes to an 11% reduction in spread. The decal and insert contribute to a more desirable sound and softer, more responsive feel from the 431 stainless steel cast head.

Titleist Vokey SM10 Raw Custom Wedge
For every shot, every lie, every course, there is a grind to suit your swing. Finding the right gravel to suit your swing and playing conditions will give you the best surface interaction, contact and hitting performance. Master craftsman Bob Vokey has spent decades creating, developing and improving his tour-proven grinds to suit players of all levels. Anyone can craft a wedge, but it takes a master to turn a piece of high-end technology into a tool for creative control. Bob’s six tour-proven grinds are designed to provide maximum creativity, versatility and consistency, all carefully developed through years of working with the best players in the world. PROGRESSIVE CENTER OF GRAVITY SM9 features a progressive Center of Gravity (CG) across the entire loft, which optimizes ball flight, accuracy and forgiveness. Using tapered top lines and varied hose lengths, the Vokey R&D team has increased the height of the center of gravity on the higher lofts, promoting lower, more controlled flight. The center of gravity is also forward of the face, resulting in a greater moment of inertia, exceptional feel and a club face that simply wants to stand straight at impact. SPIN MILLED GROOVES SM9’s patented Spin Milled grooves are carefully engineered via a new cutting process to maximize spin and durability. The process begins with sawing the face perfectly flat with a high-speed saw. Then each groove is cut individually based on loft and finish; low lofts (46°-54°) are designed with narrower, deeper grooves, while higher lofts (56°-62°) have wider, shallower grooves. Micro-grooves are individually cut between grooves, maximizing spin on part hits. A patented heat treatment is applied to the impact area that doubles the groove’s durability without affecting feel, making it the most durable groove in golf. The process is not complete until each Vokey wedge is 100% inspected for the highest quality and performance.

Odyssey Tri-Hot Square 2 Square Rossie custom putter
We moved Zero Torque Forward. Odyssey’s new line of S2S TRI-HOT putters is a revolution in the “Zero Torque” category. By using multi-material construction, we have been able to move the center of gravity of these putters far enough forward to get the shaft into the clubhead on the topline, eliminating the need for shaft lean and thus eliminating one of the biggest entry barriers to this style of putter. Forward Center of Gravity and Hosel Position By moving the center of gravity forward, we were able to position the Hosel spud on the topline, much closer to the face than typical “Zero Torque” putters, for a more natural, intuitive and comfortable setup. Multi-Material Construction By strategically using aluminum, steel and over 140 grams of tungsten, we were able to design a “Zero Torque” putter with over 80% of its weight below the topline and taking into account our forward center of gravity and hosel position. New FRD Groove This new Forward Roll Design Groove is deeper and more aggressive. With a 19° slope, it works with the dual-ply design to improve forward roll up and down the face.
