Acting US Attorney Bill Essayli has instructed federal agencies to ignore the new Law of California, which requires that immigration and customs enforcement agents are exposed during the activities.
Essayli quoted the supremacy clause of the American Constitution and emphasized that Governor Gavin Newsom has no authority to dictate federal law enforcement tactics.
The controversial law, signed by Newsom only a few days ago, forbids masks for federal agents in California, and claims to guarantee accountability, but is generally seen as an attempt to hinder immigration.
Before he signed the bill in the law, Newsom said in his announcement: “I will sign a bill, first in the nation, said, enough. Ice, exposing. What are you afraid of?”
Radical left-wing activists have unleashed a wave of attacks and doxing campaigns that are aimed at ice officers in the midst of the deportation activities of President Trump in 2025. This dangerous story has real-World threats, including the deadly snout of a detained and Ice-facility earlier this week The Shell-Om shells of the shooter were etched with anti-Ice messages.
Doxing efforts of antifa-linked groups are also intensified, so that ice officers and their families have set a serious risk. In Portland, extreme-left points of sale such as “Rose City Counter-info” and “The Crustian Daily” have published names, photos and home addresses of ice officers.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has linked A stunning increase of 1,000% increases in attacks on iced personnel for inflammatory rhetoric of Democrats and extreme left-wing groups, who have demonized agents as “Gestapo” and “slave patterns”.
The Memo of Essayli reinforces that the federal operations will be unhindered, thereby protecting the safety and effectiveness of agents against the interference of the state.
In a post on X with the memo embedded, Essayli wrote: “Governor Newsom is confused about his role under the American constitution. He supervises California, not federal agencies. He has to revise the supremacy clause.”

“The Law of California to ‘expose’ federal agents is unconstitutional, because the state has no jurisdiction to disturb itself with federal law enforcement. I have instructed federal agencies to ignore this state law and attach to the federal policy of the law and the agency,” added Essayli.
