The Minister President has called for increased federal financing for the public health system of the territory on the annual ACT Labor Conference.
The meeting of Party Faithful from all over Canberra yesterday was the first time that the event was held since Labor returned to the law for a seventh term.
It is the first time that the event has been held since the birth was returned to the power for a seventh term.
The annual conference is an opportunity for party members and chosen representatives to take stock and to think about challenges.
And although there was optimism about the party’s performance, there was also concern about the issues in the capital health sector.
In his speech for representatives of the conference, Act Chief Minister Andrew Barr said that this year would see a record investment in the public health system.
“It includes extra nurses, doctors and allied health workers as part of the commitment we have done to hire 800 new health workers in this parliamentary term,” he said.

In the elections in May, Federal Labor committed more than $ 14 million to support Bulk-Billing GPS in the law, in addition to national obligations to stimulate more bulk billing.
But Mr Barr said that the government “always needs a little more” federal financing, and stabilizing the health system was no exception.
“We welcome the important extra investment of the federal government in primary health care, including more support for bulk billing in our community,” said Mr Barr.
“[But] Our public hospitals need a further injection of federal funds to meet this increased demand.“
Negotiations between the states and areas and the Commonwealth on a new five -year national health agreement are underway.

ACT minister of Health Rachel Stephen-Smith insisted on territory to get back on the good track to meet a deployment of 2023 to finance 45 percent of the law system of the law within 10 years.
“We are currently under the law under the agreement, under the 35 percent commonwealth financing, so we want to get back on the right track for that process,” said Mrs. Stephen-Smith.
“I am really convinced that we will have made considerable progress, and I hope that we will have established an agreement towards the end of the year.“
Health expenses are now more than a third of the ACT budget and it is expected to grow.
The Plan of the Territorium Government to help finance the public health sector with a tax of $ 250 for all Ratepayers was only returned six days after proposed when the Act Greens closed a deal to reduce it to $ 100 for residential ratepayers.
It is an example of the reality with which the ACT government is confronted now that it is not in coalition with the greens: it must negotiate with the crossbench.
Housing and Infrastructure Investments

In his speech, Mr Barr also said that the territory government was well on his way to her goal to make the construction of 30,000 extra houses in Canberra possible by 2023.
Barr said that the city had doubled in size since he started to live in it in 1977, and it would double again.
“We must ensure that we have the planning framework to manage that change in the coming decades,” he said.
“That is why the government reform agenda combines the reform of territory planning, increased land release and more direct investments of both the area and the Commonwealth governments to make the tens of thousands of new houses that we need to be built possible.”
But he said that the government could not only build more houses and call it a day – the surrounding community infrastructure also had to be built.
“This includes projects such as new hospitals, community centers and schools in these new growth areas,”
Said Mr. Barr.
“[It also] extends to things that Canberra make a better place to live such as the new Canberra Aquatic Center, the new Lyric Theater … The new congress center.
“And that investment in infrastructure will support more jobs in tourism and hospitality.”
‘The most improved city in Australia’

When completing his address, Mr. Barr said that Canberra is being arranged if one of the most liveable cities in the world was “one of the benefits of long -term labor regulations”.
“Our city is fairer, more diverse and a better place to live than 25 years ago,” he said.
“I like to say that Canberra is the most improved city in Australia, and I don’t get much disagreement where I say that in Australia or the whole world.
“Quality of life means something. It does not happen by accident and it is the result of our collective work for many decades.
“[If] We will keep this up, we will retain the reputation of Canberra as one of the most livable places on this planet.“
Labor has been in power for almost 24 years.
The following territory elections are not for more than three years, but the annual conference is an opportunity for the party to cement its platform – a platform that hopes that Canberrans will continue to support.
