Editions and saving
The most exciting thing that happened this month was around 1 pm on August 27oneI finished my thesis.
To be honest, that thesis must now be submitted, investigated and probably revised (because pass with small corrections is the most common outcome of a British viva voce and even a pass with large corrections would still be a pass), but … I am in a strange small bubble of freedom. On September 16 I have a large supervisor meeting and a fake viva, after which my supervisors will sign all my paperwork and complete the last form that I have to submit and we will send the whole thing to the investigation committee, which will reach my examiners and set up an exam date.
But for now, that exam date does not exist, so … sweet freedom for a little. Only the usual part -time work and a little preparation for the Viva. And start looking at which jobs I will request when I graduate. And also write a book with one of my supervisors in this time.
So that’s school life. Augustus was also very busy with a few visits from friends and a fairly chaotic trip to Egypt in the middle of the month that I probably spoke about too many On the blog. But it happened and we are happy that we did it, but it was definitely a performance of survival more than I did.
Egypt was also by far the biggest costs this month. If the person who books everything, I always pay during booking, when I can, but I often forget that some hotels will not accept payment until you are there. So almost $ 400 of those costs were the hotel bookings that my partner paid half a century ago. That number also includes the full reimbursement of our 5-day tour in the middle of the trip. That reimbursement of our trip also went back to my credit card, so I had to shuffle a little from savings account money to free up the money to repay my partner half of our trip, which means that my goal to have everything saved for my visa take a small step back.

I hope I will be able to make a dent in some of my 2025 savings goals, probably from October. Because I have not saved much this year, but the adventures have been pretty good.
I am excited to be back when implementing two classes that start this month, which should help, and one of my digital producing jobs has quite a few bookings (of course, the one who pays much less) at the end of the month.
My cousin and her son visit a few days at the end of the month, which I expect to be fairly expensive, but otherwise it should be a cheap month. Fingers crossed. And fingers also crossed for a few more bookings with the better paying performance.

Go
To the goals!
- Max My Roth Ira for 2024:Finished.
- Max My Roth Ira for 2025: $ 7000 to go.
- Max from my HSA– $ 4300 to go.
- Go to Egypt with my friend and family: This is paid. Holiday is in August.
- Best friend Summer adventures: This is also paid. Holiday is in July.
- Sunshine Getaway –This is officially pushed to autumn. We strive for some sunshine and cocktails for a long weekend to the cheapest decent all-inclusive that we can find in Europe the week after my doctoral defense when that is planned.
- Save $ 1,200 for my American car insurance by June
- Buy a used car in the UK– I currently have $ 10,000 in a new car account because my Toyota Matrix is on her last legs. I was saving to buy a new car, but instead I am looking for a used car in the UK after I have completed my driving lessons for around £ 5,000 or less.
- Pay for a graduated visa– This will cost about £ 4000 and I switched to $ 4500 to my tuition fees, after I cut a little to have taken the summer, so this should almost be good to go, but now needs a bit of a top -up. And fingers are crossed that exchange rates do not get out of hand. We will see at the end of the year.
