Abbas promises to work with Trump, UN and allies on Gaza Peace Plan | The Express Tribune

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas promised on Thursday in the United Nations to collaborate with US President Donald Trump, Saudi Aarabia, France and the UN about a Peace Plan for Gaza that is overwhelmed by the world organ.

The 193-members General Meeting Earlier this month endorsed a statement of seven pages that tries to promote a two-state solution and to end the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas. The statement followed at an international conference at the UN organized in July by Saudi Arabia and France. The United States and Israel Boycot the event and rejected the effort.

Separately, the American special envoy Steve Witkoff said that Trump had presented a 21-point peace plan for the Middle East and Gaza during a meeting with leaders of Muslim majority states on the sidelines of this week’s UN general meeting.

Abbas addressed the annual meeting of world leaders via video after the United States refused to travel to New York.

“Despite everything our people have suffered, we reject what Hamas did on October 7 – actions aimed at Israeli citizens and took them as hostages – because such actions do not represent the Palestinian people, nor their just struggle for freedom and independence,” said Abbas.

“We have confirmed – and will continue to confirm – that Gaza is an integral part of the state of Palestine, and that we are ready to take full responsibility for administration and safety there. Hamas will not play a role in the board, and – together with other factions – must hand over his weapons to the Palestinian national authority,” he added. “We repeat that we don’t want an armed state.”

No future role for Hamas

He also rejected every future role for Hamas and convicted anti -Semitism, because he appealed to full global support for a state in the light of Israeli annexation beds.

The points he raised were included in the statement adopted by the general meeting.

“We explain our willingness to work with President Donald Trump, with Saudi Aarabia, France, the United Nations and all partners to implement the peace plan,” supported by the general meeting, Abbas said.

The war in Gaza was activated by 7 October 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, in which 1,200 people, mainly citizens, were killed and about 251 hostages, according to Israeli figures. According to the local health authorities, more than 65,000 people, including citizens, have since been killed in Gaza.
