Everything went well for Aaron Pico – until suddenly it was not.
The former Bellator MMA-falling had a strong start at the UFC 319 Co-Main event, but his night ended abruptly when Lerone Murphy made him unconscious with a rotating elbow 3:21 in the opening round of their featherweight fight in the United Center in Chicago on Saturday evening.
Although a Pico victory may have propelled in immediate title conflict, the 28-year-old Jackson-Wink MMA representative takes his defeat.
Pico: ‘My story is not over’
“Last night was not my night, that’s the fighting game,” wrote Pico on his Instagram account. “I am grateful for my team, my family and everyone who continues to support me. The supporters who have been there from the first day and my new supporters, I see you! Thank you. Win and lose lessons, and I am sharper, stronger and better prepared. Thank you all those messages have sent in, my health is good.
“Thanks for driving with me. My story is not over yet.”
Pico fell into defeat at 13-5, and all five of those losses were in the distance, although there was a result of an unfortunate shoulder injury. The resident of California has won nine of his last 11 professional outings in general.
