It is not every day I can update with a Friday five from South Korea – but today it happens. Lisa and I left Sweden last Sunday …
… landed on Monday in Seoul and has had a lot of intense days in this country since. Let me take a (huge) quick summary before it is time to continue planning the next phase of this fantastic journey.
A reserve in South Korea!
#1. Wow for Seoul

We started the trip with a few days in Seoul. The plan was to choose some raisins from the cake and then continue on the train to the south, to Busan and Gyeongju, and then end up with some shopping in Seoul before you return home. Would turn out to be an excellent plan. After they have driven through a part of the country, both I and Lisa can discover that Seoul is and will remain the winner in the long term. What a feeling, which city!
#2. About shopping and such

Yes, what do you say? There is a lot of attention for toys, snacks, goodies and sweet drinks, pins, beauty products and various accessories. Everything is cute, putinuty and sweet. Adult women stand and shout loudly with pleasure that they have received the “right” Labubu in Pop Mart and I hardly understand anything. It is just very different from what we are used to in Sweden!
#3. The best contrast in the world between old and new

This image of Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul may symbolize the cool mix of old and new in this city – and in every possible way this country. Cloud scrapers in the background and traditional “Hanok” houses in the foreground. A man is therefore an older Korean residence of materials such as wood, stone, clay and gut (Paper by hand made by the bark of mulberry trees). I love this image.
#4. A lot of exciting food (but to draw the limit of living beings)

Lisa and I eat during this trip through our days! The Korean cuisine offers So Very good and exciting …

… and we are definitely stuck in front of the Korean BBQ where the meat is grilled directly at the table. There is also a lot of strange and really disgusting to eat for those who urged themselves. Yesterday we had a booked food tour in Busan and were offered to eat octopus pieces that were completely new and therefore still moved. I said kindly but firm thank you no, thanks. Lisa? She is the world’s bravest and tried a bit. So my limit in the food path is approximately with living beings.
#5. To plan a repeat
I didn’t even come home …

… but already plans for how and when I can return. My ten -year -old daughter Nelly now wants to travel on earth more than anything (she has done this for a long time) and I really want to go back with her. She will love this country every minute!

And with that I say thank you and goodnight from a hotel room in Gyeongju, a city of just over 40 miles south of Korea. Tomorrow it will be to Seoul again. Annyeong!
For those of you who are curious about more scouts, tips and weekly summaries, you will find them during the trip Friday week after week. Cover image: Seoul, South Korea. Some photos I borrowed from Lisa, who also wrote about the journey here.
