The FBI opens an investigation into 232,000 Jeeps after owners complained about faulty instrument panels.

– The failure of the instrument panels on the Jeep Gladiator and Jeep Wrangler has convinced the government to open an investigation into complaints about the instrument panels filed by owners of 2020 model year Jeeps.

More than 232,000 Jeep Gladiators and Jeep Wranglers are involved in the investigation opened by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A recall of the instrument cluster on the 2020 Jeep Gladiator and 2020 Jeep Wrangler may be necessary based on complaints alleging drivers have lost speedometers, fuel gauges, engine temperature warnings, turn signals and other warning lights and gauges.

NHTSA has received at least 89 complaints about Jeeps losing all or part of their instrument panel displays and failing while driving. Losing the instrument cluster clusters when a Gladiator or Wrangler is parked is one thing, but losing the gauges and various warning indicators while driving is an obvious safety hazard.

Driving without the instrument panel illuminated will also be a distraction as the driver tries to guess his speed and whether there is enough fuel for the trip.

This owner of a 2020 Jeep Wrangler complained to NHTSA about the experience of losing the instrument cluster display.

“The instrument cluster shows random erratic readings like the mileage is off. Temperature goes to zero, fuel gauge misread vehicle gets stuck in high gear and won’t downshift when I researched online. I found a recall bulletin for 24V652000 and that bulletin describes what my vehicle is doing, but my vehicle is not considered part of the recall bulletin. This vehicle is dangerous to drive on the road with the situation that can arise at any time.”

The Jeep Wrangler instrument cluster recall referenced by the aforementioned Wrangler owner was issued in September 2024 for certain 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiator vehicles and 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles.

CarComplaints.com will update our website with the results of the Jeep Gladiator and Jeep Wrangler instrument panel survey.
