No team in MLB welcomes the end of the regular season more than the Colorado Rockies. They finished the year at 43-119, making them one of the worst teams baseball history.
ESPN’s Buster Olney and Jesse Rogers reported that recently The Rockies will probably shake their front office This season outside the season. This would not do this at this point. They have scored 597 points and have given up 1,021, and their -424 Run differential is the worst by each team since the Cleveland Spiders from 1899 (which were dissolved after that season).
The Rockies are their own product. They are notoriously loyal to front office staff and Rather rent from the family. Walker Monfort, son of owner Dick Monfort, is the Executive Vice President, and his brother, Sterling Monfort, is the director of Pro Scouting.
Current – and probably departing – general manager Bill Schmidt has been employed by the organization for more than 25 years. He climbed to the top job when his predecessor Jeff Bridich was asked to resign in the mid -2021 season after Colorado was scammed in the notorious Nolan Arenado trade.
That situation seemed to ask for an external recruitment to calibrate again how the franchise works, because the rest of MLB had become better on and next to the field. Instead, they promote Schmidt and have only gone downhill since then.
De Rockies finished the 2021 season in fourth place in the National League West with a record of 74-87. Since then they are no longer out of last place and have been 68-94 in 2022, 59-103 in 2023 and 61-101 in 2024 before this year sets Futility Records.
The pitching of Colorado in particular has become unforgettable. Their 6.02 ERA is the worst in MLB with a mile. For comparison, the worst era in the American League de Los Angeles Angels’ 4.87 is. Their 17.1% strikeout rate is not only the lowest in MLB -it is the worst due to a pitching staff for a full season in the past 10 years.
There were only two starting pitchers who used the Rockies this season whose eras were only bad and not horrible. Ryan Feltner placed a 4.75 ERA over six starts and 30 1/3 innings. Veteran Kyle Freeland was the nominal ‘ace’, to complete the year with a 4.99 ERA over 31 starts, although he leads MLB with 17 losses. Any other Colorado world who started at least one competition has an era of 6.33 or higher.
Their attack has not been much better than their pitching, because their 597 points scored are the second lowest in MLB. They rank as the last death in the competition with a .293 on-base percentage and an 80 OPS+, indicating that their total attack was 20% worse than the League average.
Perhaps the most damn indictment against Schmidt’s term of office is that their agricultural system despite the fact that they have high picks every year. Mlb.com ranked their system 24th General After this year’s design, and they were only so high because they had just selected Ethan Holliday with the fourth overall choice.
The Big-League roster cannot be solved at night. Building the agricultural system will be a top priority for the next general manager, but the outgoing regime has left the Rockies in such a sad state that it will take years to clean up this mess.
