David Hasselhoff once told a court he had only $4,000 ($5,700) left.

But a look inside the Baywatch legend’s real estate empire tells a very different story.

The actor was once worth $100 million ($A150 million), but is now reportedly worth $10 million ($A15 million).

The 73-year-old star, whose financial journey is a wild mix of ‘fake’ claims and huge TV royalties, has spent decades building a global real estate collection that would make even Mitch Buchannon blush.

Inside the real estate collection

The Hoff’s ownership moves prove that even when he was “struggling,” he lived a big life.

The Encino ‘Cave’

In 1996, he paid $1.9 million ($A2.7 million) for a sprawling estate in Encino, California. The complex has a library, its own pub area and a gymnasium.

He eventually sold the old family home in 2013 for $3.5 million ($A4.9 million).

The Calabasas ‘Mini Mansion’

The same year he sold Encino, he bought a $1.9 million ($A2.7 million) property in Calabasas.

This five-bedroom estate featured a sunken living room and a family room with a wet bar.

Outside, the 1.5-acre property featured a lagoon-style pool with a waterfall and a basketball court.

The ‘impossible’ statement

In 2020, Hasselhoff teamed up with his daughter Taylor to sell the Calabasas home for $3.6 million ($A5.1 million) as part of the reality show Listing Impossible.

The series followed real estate agents trying to sell highly customized, hard-to-sell homes.

They were unable to sell the property and this remains David’s main home.

The Knight Rider star reportedly owns a $1.3 million home in Monrovia. The house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The Bali paradise

In 2017, Hasselhoff expanded his portfolio internationally by purchasing a beachfront property on the island of Gili Meno, Indonesia.

The coastal path is part of a resort development on the paradise island, located off the east coast of Bali.

Facilities include a sleek bar, sun terrace, infinity pool with stunning sea views and direct access to one of the island’s beaches.

“I love Gili Meno because there are no cars on the island, it’s like going back in time,” Hasselhoff said at the time about his investment.

“The best thing about the island is that you can eat so deliciously, for example fresh lobster, and it costs almost nothing.”

The $150 million royalties

When Baywatch was canceled in 1990 after just one season, Hasselhoff and his partners bought the rights back for a pittance.

They put it into syndication and created the most watched show in the world.

As an executive producer, this move earned him an estimated $100 million in eleven years.

At his peak, he earned US$60,000 ($A85,000) per episode and a whopping $US$4 million ($A5.7 million) per year in residuals.

The ‘Broke’ claim

Despite his TV wealth, Hasselhoff claimed he had less than $4,000 in liquid assets during a bitter battle over his wife with ex-wife Pamela Bach.

According to TMZ in 2016 he earned $US112,000 ($A160,000) a month and had $US1.79 million ($A2.55 million) in property, savings, cars, art and jewelry.

His ex-wife claimed Hasselhoff lied about the amount of money he was worth, saying it was closer to US$120 million ($171 million), with expenses of US$66,000 ($94,000) a month.

The actor and Bach reached an agreement in late 2016 to reduce his original monthly alimony from $21,000 ($A30,000) to $10,000 ($A15,000). The sun reports.

In 2017, Hasselhoff successfully had monthly payments reduced to US$5,000 ($A7,500) per month, citing his lower income and Bach’s failure to find a job.

The TV star told Entertainment tonight at the time, he never thought he would run out of money.

“I laughed at all these people making money and losing it, and I asked, ‘How could that happen to them?’” Hasselhoff told the outlet in 2016.

“All of a sudden I woke up one morning and said, ‘Oh, now I realize!’”

Hasselhoff claimed at the time that he had paid more than $2.5 million to Bach since their divorce.

He paid the halved amount from December 2017 to November 30, 2020 TMZ.

After Bach and Hasselhoff divorced in 2016, he married Hayley Roberts in 2018.

In March 2025, Bach died by suicide at the age of 62 in her Hollywood Hills home.
