A look back at my 2025 Men’s Singles Grand Slam predictions

My Grand Slam predictions for the 2025 season were largely successful. Now that the year is in the rearview mirror, it’s time to look back at where things went right – or where things went wrong.

Australian Open

Choose: Novak Djokovic

Result: Jannik Sinner

Djokovic actually had a good year, reaching the semifinals of all four majors. Unfortunately for the 38-year-old (and for my Aussie Open pick), Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz were a bridge too far to cross. I had Alexander Zverev finishing second, so at least Melbourne’s prediction turned out to be correct.

French Open

Choose: Carlos Alcaraz

Result: Carlos Alcaraz

My run of three consecutive correct choices started in Paris, although it didn’t go without a hitch – the biggest sweat of the entire season, in fact. Alcaraz famously bounced back from a three-way championship run before beating Sinner in a fifth-set tiebreak. Sinner finishing second was also a bull’s eye.

Wimbledon

Choose: Jannik Sinner

Result: Jannik Sinner

Although Sinner – and this pick – needed an assist from Grigor Dimitrov in the third round, it was a well-deserved success. Apart from two sets against Dimitrov in the fourth round, the Italian was the best player at the All-England Club from start to finish. I had Jack Draper second, which looked like a promising long shot earlier this season… until injuries derailed the Brit again.

US open

Choose: Carlos Alcaraz

Result: Carlos Alcaraz

I made sure Alcaraz won two majors in 2025 – and at the exact locations. His second win was largely routine, including over Sinner in the final. But admittedly, Daniil Medvedev was my selection for second. The 2021 US Open winner finally warmed up towards the end of the year, but he was an unmitigated disaster at all four Grand Slams.
