Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former key political ally of Donald Trump, said she was the target of a wave of threats after the US president took a swipe at her on social media.
The 51-year-old Republican congresswoman was previously a standard-bearer for Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, but the president announced Friday he was withdrawing all support for “Wacky” Marjorie, calling Greene a “tenth crazy.”
He continued his criticism Saturday with two more social media posts, calling her a “lightweight congresswoman,” “traitor” and a “disgrace” to the Republican Party.

Greene later said on

“Aggressive rhetoric attacking me has historically led to death threats and multiple convictions of men radicalized by the same kind of rhetoric now directed at me,” Greene said. “This time by the President of the United States.”

Why did Trump split with Marjorie Taylor Greene?

The high-profile split came after Greene distanced himself from the president in recent weeks as he faced mounting criticism over concerns about America’s cost of living and the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
The dispute also marks an extraordinary rupture in the MAGA movement, a year before the US midterm elections.
Until recently, Greene was a staunch supporter of Trump and has broken with the president on numerous issues. Trump expressed his frustration with her for the first time on Monday, saying she had “lost her way.”

Greene’s sudden change has led to speculation that she is in line for her own presidential bid in 2028, although she has dismissed that as “baseless gossip.”

Perhaps the most sensitive area of criticism has been Greene’s position on the Epstein scandal, which Trump ensnared again in recent days with the release of a new batch of emails.
After becoming a leading voice last summer calling for justice for the victims of the infamous sex offender, Greene was one of a handful of MAGA rebels this week to support an effort to vote on demanding the public release of files related to the Epstein investigation.
In her Saturday morning post on X, she again addressed the Epstein scandal.

“As a woman, I take threats from men seriously,” Greene said. “I now have a small idea of the fear and pressure that the women who are victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his cabal must feel.”

Trump has made waves over Epstein, who died in a prison cell in 2019, a hoax by Democrats.
He suggested in his Truth Social post that conservative voters in Greene’s district might consider Greene as a primary challenger and that he would back the right candidate against her in next year’s congressional elections.
Online comments from Trump supporters are not unusual. Right-wing influencers and conservative media personalities have become a powerful online force in amplifying talking points and false claims, and in efforts to discredit Trump’s rivals.
