The accused, Amir Rashid Ali, a resident of Samboora in Pampore, was arrested from Delhi. Investigators discovered that the car used in the blast was registered to Amir, and that he had traveled to the capital to help Umar secure the vehicle that was later converted into a vehicle-borne IED (VBIED).
According to the NIA, Amir had actively collaborated with Umar Un Nabi, an assistant professor of general medicine at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, to carry out the deadly attack near the Red Fort on November 10.
Forensic analysis has confirmed that the charred body found at the scene of the explosion was that of Umar Un Nabi, the suicide bomber who drove the explosives-laden car. The agency also seized another vehicle from him, which is now being examined for additional evidence.
So far, the NIA has questioned 73 witnesses, including several injured survivors of the blast.
The agency is working closely with Delhi Police, J&K Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police and other central units as it follows multiple leads across states.
Officials believe the conspiracy extends beyond the two identified conspirators, and more arrests are likely to be made as the investigation continues.
