Regular readers of this website will be familiar with ‘The Device’, a beer-carrying device that King Cricket and his family have used in cricket matches for decades.
Such regular readers may also have seen contributions from people like me, who have seen cricket bats adapted for apparatus purposes – in my case to decorate a bar in Sissinghurst.
In 2025, Sam created one such gold standard spotting: a modified cricket bat used as an apparatus in a cricket match.
Yet there is another King Cricket theme: cricket bats in unusual places, which has been active since 2009.
I have made several contributions to that oeuvre, including spotting a cricket bat in a Pigbag video in 2024.
That discovery made me surprisingly happy, considering my age and stage of life.
But I am now able to set a new gold standard. Because I have very illogically seen a device-adapted cricket bat in a Mexican corrido music video: El Belicón from Peso Pluma.
If you can distract your eyes and mind from the offensive weapons and glamor models that also grace the video, you’ll see Peso Pluma brandishing the device around the 12 second mark, and the 40 second mark, and then a few more times during the video.
I asked Google Gemini (there are other AI assistants available) to explain Peso Puma’s hole-punch device in that video. It replied confidently that the device is to guiroa percussion instrument commonly used in Central America. This plausible-sounding theory falls apart somewhat when you look at photos of güiros, none of which even remotely resemble the cricket bat-like device wielded by Peso Pluma.
Any plausible ideas as to why Peso Pluma is wielding a cricket bat device in this video clip would be greatly appreciated. The hive mind of King Cricket readers can certainly do better than Gemini.
