Anticipation for the WNBA season of 2025 has been echoed around the competition since the last buzzer last year.

Can the New York Liberty repeat last year’s success?
In 2024, for the first time since the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2011, the streets of New York flocked with fans for a championship parade. Led by two of the best players in the competition, Sabrina Ionescu and Brianna Stewart, the Liberty brought their very first title home.
After 23 years as a franchise, the Liberty did what has not been done in New York since 1973: they won a basketball championship.
With the same starting five and Key Bench talent that returns for the Liberty, can they shorten the wait and another 23-year drought?
Will the Connecticut Sun recover from a disastrous low season?
The sun can take place in Connecticut.
Despite making the play -offs and continuing last year to game 5 of the semi -finals, the sun is in a precarious situation to start 2025. All five of the play -off starters of last year losing in the free agency, Connecticut had difficulty replacing his previous core with equally strong talent.

This year’s core of Minnesota returns firmly intact and with even more desire to win. With one of the best of the competition in Napheeesa Collier and the privilege of stability in the midst of season outside season, they are perfectly ready to go on the path of last year’s success.
Are the Las Vegas Aces ready at the top?
The easy answer here is not at all.
The Las Vegas Aces show a level of maturity and stability at both ends of the field that few teams can replicate. A’ja Wilson, with three MVP seasons under her belt, is perhaps still the most dominant power in the W. At the age of 28 -Wilson comes in her eighth season and shows no signs of decline, and it is quite possible that we have not even seen the peak of what they can do.

It is time for the Phoenix Mercury to form a new identity.
After 20 seasons with Taurasi and 11 with Griner, it looks rather different in Phoenix. But by securing two of the best available players in Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas, the Mercury has shown that their new identity will not be associated with weakness. Only because two of their greatest players have gone, this does not mean that more greatness is not ready and willing to step in and take their place.
How do the Dallas wings fit together?
The wings have many great pieces, especially with the addition of No. 1 Pick Paige Bueckers who come to the team.
Add a new coach in Chris Koclanes and some additions outside of season, suddenly the question is not what the wings need to be successful, it’s how they fit it all up.
There is still much to get used to, such as the connection between one of the potentially best passers in Bueckers and one of the best shooters in Arike Ogunbowale. However, if the couple can get into rhythm and find ways to convert together, they cannot be stopped.
Will Kelsey Plum ignite the sparks in Los Angeles?
After going 8-32 last season, Plum can bring the sparks exactly what they need.
Los Angeles has strong talent in Dearica Hamby and last year Rookie stars Rickea Jackson and Cameron Brink. They also had some bad luck after an ACL injury has set aside an ACL injury just a few weeks after last season. However, now that Brink is recovering and more Rookie fire has been added, the sparks have something great for plums to work with.
For every WNBA season, Plum runs a training camp that calls her ‘Dawg Class’ to help young players develop. Given her experience in leading young people to this level of playing, there is an expectation that she will be able to bring the same direction to the prospect -filled team that now surrounds her.
What do the Golden State Valkyries do?
For fans in Toronto pending the arrival of the pace, this question is particularly burning. So much of what the Valkyries achieve in their inaugural season shows what the pace can be able to be in theirs.
The problem is that it is difficult to understand exactly what the Valkyries are doing. During the expansion concept they had limited options and they worked well on choosing players who are not only based on skills, but also a strong character. But then, during the free desk, they apparently stood still. The Valkyries did not go after key names, despite the CAP room and left the low season with just a few international signing sessions. In the design they continued that trend and they picked up the Lithuanian sensation Juste Jocyt with their first round pick.
The problem with so much dependence on international talent is that those players choose to stay with their overseas teams instead of moving to the W. Jocyte, for example, has chosen to stay in Europe the entire 2025 season instead of playing for Golden State.
Already one of their top choices, the Valkyries then made another questionable decision by refraining from the second general pick Shyanne Sellers Before the preseason even started.
Without their first two concept choices or important signing sessions out of season, it is difficult to understand what the Valkyries are doing and where they go from here.
