The Philadelphia 76ers and limited free agent Guard Quentin Grimes are still “very far apart” on a potential new deal, ESPNs Shams Charania reported Wednesday while NBA today.
“I was told that both parties are very far apart for a deal. The Agent of Quentin Grimes, David Bauman, told me today that it was the first time today that the Sixers made a formal, hard range of Grimes as a limited free agent,” Charania said.
Quentin Grimes to miss Media Day, the first preview game
Bauman also told Charania that Grimes will not go to Philadelphia’s media day this week, and he will not travel to Abu Dhabi this weekend for the preseason of 76ers.
The Sixers expanded a qualification of $ 8.7 million to Grimes in June, and the general consensus among NBA insiders is that the 25-year-old will ultimately sign the one-year contract.
“I can absolutely say that the Sixers – different people in the organization when asked – continue to say that Quentin Grimes is their top priority,” Jake Fischer Last month reported during a Blacher report live stream.
“And that they will bring Quentin Grimes back, it’s just a matter of dollars and cent. There is also some buzz that he takes on the qualifying offer.”

Charania also noted that the preparation of VJ Edgecombe of the 76ers, in addition to the recent injury history of Philadelphia, could make the Sixers reluctant to offer Grimes a long -term deal.
“From the 76ers side of this, getting VJ Edgecombe in the High Lottery, which of course changes the dynamics of their half of the defense,” Charania added.
“And this year there is a level of uncertainty in health with important players such as Joel Embiid, Paul George, and where does that leave the 76 people in terms of offering that high -quality, high perennial deals.”
Grimes has three options with the 76 people
Charania explained that there are currently three options for Grimes.
The first would be that he signed a qualifying range of $ 8.6 million to stay with the team, the second would be a drawing and trade, and the third would be a one-year-old deal that is worth more than the qualifying offer.
Due to its sound, the 76 people will probably not present a multi -year deal to Grimes.
This latest update is a shame, because Grimes comes from the best offensive season of his NBA career.
In 75 games (35 starts) divided between the Dallas Mavericks and Sixers last season, Grimes had on average a career-high 14.6 points at 46.7% shooting from the field and 38.5% from 3-point range.
After the MAVs had traded him to Philadelphia, the former first Rounder had an average of 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per match while 46.9% shot off the floor and 37.3% from outside.
For each basketball reference, Grimes also joined Tyrese Maxey, Allen Iverson and Hal Greer as the only guards in the history of Sixers to an average of 28.5 points in a rack of 10 games.
