Tips for effective large text designs

Small choices add up. Here are some quick tips to keep your large text areas clear and impressive.

Prioritize hierarchy

Use size, weight and spacing to clearly distinguish your main headline from supporting lines. On smaller screens, keep headings concise and move secondary details to smaller text to prevent the layout from becoming too overwhelming.

typographic hierarchy

Pay attention to your contrast

When placing large text over images, gradients, or solid colors, make sure there is enough contrast for readability. Use Divi 5’s background options to add overlays or gradients behind text to keep your message readable and accessible.

Use consistent typography

Limit yourself to a small number of font families and weights. Mixing too many styles makes the hero feel chaotic. If you use font design variables, link your headers and body text to those variables so that changes remain consistent throughout the site.

Balance text and images

Determine whether your layout is text first or image first, and design accordingly. Use images to support the message, not compete with it. Align the focal points in your images with the direction of your text to draw attention through the design.

Use movement lightly

When using movement, subtle hover or reveal effects are sufficient. Avoid heavy parallax or frantic animation behind large blocks of text. Consider soft fades, slide-ins, or minimal hover states on CTAs so that the movement supports the message rather than distracts from it.
