Ford’s Universal EV platform
Ford was able to beat Slate on his own game
Slate may have a few nice tricks in the sleeve, but a much larger and more important automaker could reach the cheap, sober EV before it will do. Ford recently announced what it calls its Universal EV platform, which aims to lower production costs and emphasize simplicity at production level. In many ways, Ford takes signals from the T -rule book model by concentrating on a single platform that will give birth to a wide range of new EVs.
What is especially interesting here is that Ford has said that these EVs will be really affordable, cheaper than something else in their respective segment. Under the great revelations of IAA there was also the long -awaited IX3 Electric SUV. Built around the Neue Class principle of BMW, the IX3 is the first of a series of completely new EVs of the next generation of BMW in the coming years.
For BMW, the name of Neue Klasse is a big problem, because the last time the automaker was in the mid -sixties to start a completely new way of designing, engineering and production of its vehicles. Philosophy gave birth to all the glorious BMW -Sportsedans that we now naturally consider.
Now BMW uses the same approach for its EVs, with completely new, smarter and cost -effective architectures, new battery chemistry, a fully re -invested production process and the integration of AI to promote the technology in the car. It all seems promising, and because of the appearance of the IX3, BMW seems to have made a serious leap for the competition in the EV room.
