The New York Rangers celebrate their 100th season when the Puck drops in October, and it is safe to say that we will see a number of best of all time during their 100 -year history. Because I am not 100 years old and I can best remember that I can remember the post Lockout, our lists will be post-lock-out, starting with the best Rangers transactions since the entire season 2004-2005 had been lost. There are clear Some great transactions Prior to the lockout, but I stay with what I know instead of diving in periods that I was too young to really appreciate or understand.
5. Rangers exchange Anson Carter for Jaromir Jagr (salary saved) – January 2004
Okay, I am a bit of cheating, because the Anson Carter/Jaromir Jagr -Swap took place in January 2004, but it usually influenced the Rangers Post Lockout. So there is my Maas in the law. The Rangers sent Carter to Washington in exchange for JAGR in a 1 to 1 transaction. The caps, which were more interested in the salary shedding, also retained $ 4 million of Jagr’s $ 11 million salary, with Jagr $ 1 million of his own salary postponed, both per year.
If you take up the 24% salary, the $ 11 million salary from Jagr became slightly less than $ 5 million. You read that well. The Rangers received Jagr for three full years for $ 4.94 million per season. Jagr set several Rangers records in 2005-2006, with 54 goals and 123 points that season.
The Jagrhandel is easy to one of the best Rangers transactions, because he -together with Henrik Lundqvist -essentially wore a Rangers team that had just sold the most expensive veterans in the play -offs for three consecutive seasons. The Sleea-Nylander-Jagr line was one of the best and most productive lines in the history of Rangers.
Although easily one of the best Rangers transactions, Jagr played in New York for only three years before the Rangers let him walk to the KHL as a free agent. Three years later, Jagr returned to the NHL and was still productive. He still plays in the Czech Republic at the age of 53.
4. Rangers act Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 1st round pick to Vancouver for JT Miller – January 2025
Perhaps it is unfair to use such a SLAM Dunkhandel as one of the best Rangers transactions, but it is difficult to argue against what Chris Drury did with this trade. The Rangers sent Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini and a 1st round pick to Vancouver 2025 for JT Miller, Jackson Dorrington and Erik Brannstrom. On paper, this is clearly one of the best Rangers transactions after the lock, simply because the Rangers did not give up a top of the Line -Suppler and have purchased a bona fide 1C in the process.
The Rangers gave the Rangers a potentially deadly 1-2-3 in the middle with Miller, Mika Zibanejad and Vincent Trocheck, although age and decline may be on the horizon instead of later.
Giving up Chytil was heavy, but it was clear that the Rangers needed an upgrade in the middle with the struggles of Zibanejad. The concussion of Chytil did not help either. Mancini seems to fit nicely with the Canucks, but don’t sleep on Dorrington as a solid depth piece on the road.
In the end, the Rangers received the clear best player in the deal for the middle/bottom of the line -up players.
Bound for 2: Rangers Trade Scott Gomez to Montreal for Ryan McDonagh – June 2009
Scott Gomez was the postcind for poorly advised Rangers who expired after the Lockout. Gomez soon did not become a 7 -year contract of $ 7.35 million and soon did not meet elevated expectations such as the Rangers 1C. He placed 70 points in his first season, but fell in year two to 54 points before this trade occurred.
Days before the free desk, the Rangers Gomez, Tom Pyatt and Michael Busto sent to Montreal for Ryan McDonagh, Chris Higgins, Pavel Valenko and Doug Jannik. Most players were only from body that changed team, and the real trade was mainly Gomez for Higgins and McDonagh. The Rangers also used the cap space to sign Marian Gaborik a few days later.
McDonagh was the best defender of Rangers for the most part of a decade. He joined the blues shirts halfway through the 2010-2011 season and never looked back. He soon became a staple on the top pair of Rangers, usually next to Girardi, and was eventually appointed captain after the Rangers Ryan Callahan traded.
This is easy one of the best Rangers transactions of all time, let alone after Lockout. The Rangers could not continue as a center with Gomez, especially because his effectiveness crashed. The 2007 low season was one to forget, but in the end the McDonagh landed.
T-2: Rangers Trade derick Brassard to Ottawa for Mika Zibanejad-Juli 2016
Avoiding recent bias is it difficult to say that the Derick Brassard/Mika Zibanejad -Swap was not one of the best Rangers transactions, especially after Lockout. Brassard had a very productive three seasons with the Rangers after his takeover in the Marian Gaborik trade. He started as an important gear on one of the best third lines in hockey when the Rangers went to a Stanley Cup final before he went to a top-six role.
Brassard placed 174 points (69 goals) with the rangers before the rangers sent him and a 7th round pick to Ottawa for Zibanejad and a 2nd round pick. Just like the Gomez -trading in front of him, the Rangers sent talent to the Sens for a player with the top of the Line -Uppotential. Zibanejad was only 23 years old when he was taken over and quickly stepped up the depth card when the Rangers withdrew and eventually entered a complete rebuilding.
Within a year, Zibanejad was the Rangers 1C and jumped over JT Miller (there is some irony here) to take that place after the Derek Stepan trade. The short term did not end as the Rangers expected, because their top three centers from Zibanejad, Miller and Lias Andersson would set them up for ten years. Only Zibanejad lasted before Miller came again.
The Rangers sent a fading 2C for a 1C and a second round pick. Last season, apart from Zibanejad, was a rock in the middle. He scored at almost one point per game, has been deadly on the Powerplay and has been a solid two -way player for the blues shirts. Age begins to be a concern, but looking back, this is easily one of the best Rangers transactions of all time, not just after Lockout.
1. Rangers act 2 2nd round picks to Carolina for Adam Fox – April 2019
From the best Rangers transactions after Lockout, the Adam Fox Gift would always be the top trade. We can argue semantics about Fox who forces all day to the Rangers. It will not remove the fact that this is clearly one of the best Rangers transactions of all time, above that with the Mark Messier -trade.
Adam Fox is a top three defender in the competition, full stop. Some players may have better one -time seasons, but Fox’s consistency is what distinguishes him from the rest. Just like Henrik Lundqvist, those who claim that he is not a top layer who will look stupid in 10 years. The worst season of Fox was last year, where he played on an absolute train wreck of a team and fighting persistent knee problems and still achieved 61 points.
Fox is the best defender the Rangers have had since Brian Leetch, Bar None. The blues shirts gave only two seconds round picks to land him too. If you want to bicker to give up picks for a child who would draw with them the next season, go for it. Split hair in my opinion.
The best Rangers transactions focus on veterans for young people
If you feel a trend with the best Rangers transactions after the Lockout, it is that the Rangers have sent established veterans for young players who hit their potential. Notwithstanding Fox, the McDonagh and Zibanejad Deals sent – the moment the top of the line -up players is gone for young children with high ceilings. At the time of both transactions, fans were united in celebrating the clear victories of Glen Sather and Jeff Gorton respectively.
As always, it is better to exchange a player for a year until early than a year late.
