The government of Jammu and Kashmir has closed 48 of the 87 tourist destinations in Kashmir after intelligence services warned of the possibility of more terrorist attacks, after last week’s terrorist attacks in Pahalgam.
Communication -under -shepping has confirmed that some lok cells in the valley were activated after the Pahalgam attack and were instructed to initiate operations, according to sources.
Sources further said that continuous intelligence reports indicate that terrorists are planning targeted murders, along with a larger, more impactful attack, in retribution for the destruction of active terrorist houses in the valley after the Pahalgam attack.
Information inputs that are nowadays accessible by India, also indicate that the Pakistan espionage agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), targeted attacks on non-local persons, CID staff and Kashmiri-Pandits Plant, especially in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts.
In response, security forces have used anti-feidyene squadrons, mainly from the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir police, to sensitive tourist locations, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg and the Dal Lake areas. In general, security measures have been considerably strengthened.
On April 22, a group of terrorists in Pakistan opened fire on people on vacation in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, a popular tourist destination in Kashmir, killing 26, mainly tourists. The attack led to a huge exodus of tourists from Kashmir, and the latest warnings when tourists gradually returned to the state, including Pahalgam.
Security agencies have launched enormous anti-terror operation throughout the state, performed coordinated raids, hundreds of suspects and terror symptoms, while looking for the perpetrators of the Pahalgam carnage, which also concerns a local terrorist. Authorities have also destroyed various houses of active terrorists in the valley as the performance intensifies.
In the meantime, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which investigates Pahalgam’s terror attack, has started an investigation on the spot and recreated the crime scene. The agency is also ready to question local employees on the site, including those associated with the Zipline facility, as well as survivors such as Gujarati Tourist Rishi Bhatt, whose video images have recorded images of the terrorists.
