As ASEAN chair this year, Malaysia will host the ASEAN Summit twice, as usual. The first round, the 46th ASEAN Summit, was held in Kuala Lumpur in May, and now the 47th ASEAN Summit will take place from October 26 to 28. As in May, several important roads and highways in and around the capital will be closed in phases during this period.

According to the Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Center (KLCCC), rolling and full road closures will be implemented periodically, lasting between 30 and 45 minutes, to facilitate the movement of high-level delegation convoys throughout the period. New Straits Times reports.

To begin with, routes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Subang towards the city center, as well as the Putrajaya Ring Road and KLIA Expressway, will be temporarily closed in phases to accommodate official motorcades.

The main highways affected are:

  • The Maju Highway (MEX) Majus (MEX)
  • North-South Highway (from Sungai Buloh to Jalan Duta)
  • Elite Expressway (from KLIA to Putrajaya)
  • New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) (from Subang to Jalan Duta)
  • Guthrie Highway
  • KL-Seremban Expressway (from Sungai Besi to the city center)

Heading into Kuala Lumpur, a number of major roads around the city center will be affected by road closures during the period, with the Golden Triangle area around KLCC expected to experience the greatest traffic disruption. The main and arterial roads for which road closures apply are:

  • Ampang
  • Sultan Ismail Road
  • P Ramlee Road
  • The Pine Road
  • Binjai Road
  • KLCC tour
  • The Sterrenheuvelweg
  • The road
  • Perakweg
  • Parliamentary
  • Damansara Road
  • Palace Road
  • Jalan Tun Razak
  • Kuching Road

Strategic intersections expected to be affected are Jalan Ampang – P. Ramlee Road, Sultan Ismail Jalan P. Ramlee, Perak – Jalan P. Ramlee, Perak -Pinang Road, Stonor Road Kia Peng and Jalan Stonor – KLCC Road.

Heavy vehicles are not allowed to enter the city center during peak peak hours. The public is advised to avoid the routes mentioned above and use public transport such as MRT, LRT, Monorail and buses during the period.
