You’ve all heard of the dog days of summer in baseball, and whether there is a name for it in basketball, for example cat days of winterWell, we’d be in that phase, about meow… But alas, there’s something getting us through this, and that is that the hot stove heating portion of the season has also arrived. What’s a perfect segue into the first opening salvo of the NBA trade season opener, which was *checks notes* Trae Young for… CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert? And that’s it?
As you realize that Atlanta has essentially turned Luka Doncic into what is essentially the corpse of Cam Reddish, along with the aforementioned McCollum and Kispert, you kind of wonder how executives like Nico Harrison could possibly exist. Look, personally I think the Hawks ultimately built a team that could compensate for Trae’s limitations, but it just turns out that the team still created better play without him. While Young represents a great buy-low piece simply because the guy on the other end of the floor is elite, the Wizards don’t want that right now. The tank will be tough and Trae’s playing time even after the ankle injury is fully healed will be determined by it. Regardless, McCollum quietly had a strong year and I think his value will only increase if he goes to the Hawks and Kispert will be an interesting part of the bench depending on his health.
Here are your Week 12 rankings!
*Note: The FantasyPros system is currently frozen after this publication and the rankings are still not updating. We hope this is corrected soon*
What are my rankings bona fidas? Well, there’s a finish in the FantasyPros Fantasy Football Top-10 Draft Accuracy (7th place) in 2017, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy (23rd place) in 2017, Top-5 Draft Accuracy (3rd place) in 2016, Top-10 Weekly Accuracy (10th place) in 2016, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy in 2015 (21st place) and on average we finished in the Top-10 Draft Accuracy (9th overall) and the Top-20 Weekly Accuracy (18th overall) from 2014-2018. And this comes year after year from over 100 industry sites and experts. Even if it’s the wrong sport, I’d like to think we’re pretty good at this…
What does the word bona fidas mean? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, bo·na fi·des means ˌbō-nə-ˈfī-ˌdēz, ÷ˈbō-nə-ˌfīdz 1: good faith: sincerity, 2: the fact of being sincere – often plural in construction, 3: evidence of one’s good faith or genuineness – often plural in construction, 4: evidence of one’s good faith or genuineness qualifications or performance – often plural in construction. On a side note, I think it would be a great name for a cat.
What is my ranking process? I’ve written about this in the past, and instead of working hard on new and insightful content, I took the more efficient (lazy, ahem) method and posted a link to that post. here. Honestly, my process hasn’t changed much at all (the old saying “don’t fix what isn’t broken” comes to mind) and so my story “A Day in the Life of a Fantasy Football Ranker” still remains relevant to this day and now to Fantasy Basketball!
How should I use your rankings? The same way your mother does. Which actually makes no sense. (Unless your mom is in the running to always finish in the top 3 in your Fantasy Basketball League. And if that’s the case, say hi to her from me.)
