LeBron James’ impending free agency in 2026 may not have the same magnitude as his previous decisions in 2010, 2014 and 2018, but it could still provide a familiar storyline if he returns to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a third stint with the franchise that drafted him first overall in 2003.

Cleveland’s core of Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, James Harden and Jarrett Allen has positioned the team as a contender, potentially allowing James to play small forward.

“Ik weet niet of LeBron weet wat hij gaat doen”, zei Tim MacMahon van ESPN op NBA Today. “I certainly don’t know what he’s going to do. I know what the rampant speculation is around the league and that there will be a reunion this summer and possibly a retirement tour for the ages, back home with the Cleveland Cavaliers next year.”

James continues to perform at a high level and recently became the oldest player in NBA history to record a triple-double in a win over Dallas, finishing with 28 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

Looking back on his future, he said, “My game isn’t going anywhere. It’s just my body,” adding that longevity depends on whether he can “stay in love with the process” because once that commitment fades, “then it’s over.”

Along with Cleveland, the Golden State Warriors and two unnamed teams have been linked as possible destinations if he leaves the Lakers this offseason.
