UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has released official details for the 2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid in Malaysia, where it will be offered in two variants: the 1.5 HEV AT on RM103,900and the 1.5 HEV GR Sport AT RM109,900; the prices for both variants are estimated, on the road without insurance.
The key feature here is of course the powertrain, Toyota’s fourth-generation hybrid powertrain, which can achieve a claimed fuel consumption of 3.6 liters per 100 km (NEDC). Its closest rival will be the Honda City e:HEV sedan, priced at RM111,900.
The official Malaysian website has not yet provided any details on the powertrain, but referring to Thailand market specifications, the Vios Hybrid in the kingdom will get a 1,496 cc 2NR-VEX naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 91 PS at 5,500 rpm and 121 Nm from 4,000 rpm to 4,800 rpm.
This is combined with an 80 PS/141 Nm electric motor, powered by a 0.7 kWh lithium-ion battery under the rear seat, sending a total of 111 PS to the front wheels via an e-CVT automatic transmission.
By comparison, the Honda powertrain is a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder engine with 98 hp/127 Nm that functions mainly as a generator with an integrated e-motor that also serves as a starter; Power is provided by a 108PS/253Nm engine, while the petrol engine can provide direct drive at higher speeds, and fuel consumption is claimed to be 3.77 liters per 100km.
Visually, the 1.5 HEV variant of the Vios Hybrid wears a dark chrome upper grille on a front fascia that is otherwise unchanged from the purely petrol-powered Vios.
Inside, the electrified variant gets new ambient lighting and a larger 10.1-inch Digital Audio infotainment unit that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Vios Hybrid also gets an audible proximity message to warn pedestrians and cyclists of the approaching vehicle.
The GR Sport version of the 2026 Vios Hybrid gets a bit more visual differentiation with a GR Sport-specific front bumper and grille with aero kit, and the rolling stock increases to 17-inch diameter items. This variant is pictured on Toyota Malaysia’s website with Continental PremiumContact 6 tires, which should be sized 205/50R17. The GR Sport also gets a variant-specific tune for its springs and dampers.
Inside, the Vios Hybrid GR Sport gets variant-specific leather and suede-trimmed front seats, with silver accents on the overall black interior color scheme. Like the corresponding 1.5 HEV trim version, the GR Sport also gets the upgraded 10.1-inch, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-compatible infotainment unit.
In terms of exterior colors, the 2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid 1.5 HEV is offered in Platinum White Pearl, Spicy Scarlet SE, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic and the Vios Hybrid-exclusive Celestite Gray Metallic. For the GR Sport version, the colors are Platinum White Pearl, Spicy Scarlet SE and Attitude Black, with the first two also available as GR Sport-exclusive two-tone offerings that combine with black.
With an estimated price for the 1.5 HEV AT at RM103,900, and the 1.5 HEV GR Sport AT at RM109,900, the 2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid will be sold in Malaysia with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, and an eight-year unlimited mileage warranty on the battery, inverter and power management unit.
