For 2026, the Kymco AK550 Premium maxi scooter will be sold in Malaysia as CKD, priced at RM55,888. This is a reduction of almost RM10,000 from the previous price of RM65,600 in 2024 when the AK550 was launched in Malaysia by distributor Modenas as a CBU model.
With the CKD price excluding road tax, insurance and registration, this makes the 2026 CKD AK550 competitive with local maxi scooter market competition such as the Yamaha TMax 560 and the SYM Maxsym TL508. The AK550 Premium is powered by a parallel-twin crossplane engine with a displacement of 550.4 cc.
Kymco says the AK550 gets 50.9 horsepower at 7,500 rpm, with peak torque of 52 at 6,000 rpm, which goes to the rear wheel via CVT automatic transmission and belt drive. Two power modes aid the AK550’s driving ability: Power and Rain.
To keep this 238 maxi scooter on the ground, there are upside-down forks at the front, non-adjustable, and a monoshock with adjustable spring preload at the rear. Wheel sizes are identical front and rear, with 15-inch wheels shod with 12/70 and 160/60 tires.
Braking on the AK550 is handled by a four-piston Bribe caliper on the front wheel, clamping a 270 diameter disc, while a two-piston caliper at the rear works on a 260mm disc. The AK550 is equipped with a parking brake and a smart cornering ABS system that uses sensors to monitor braking function in all road conditions.
Driving comfort on the AK550 Prey includes an electrically adjustable windscreen, cruise control and smart key system. There is also an under-seat storage compartment that can fit a single full-face helmet and a single open-face helmet.
Riding information is displayed on a circular TFT-LCD digital screen with Kymco’s Noodoe app allowing connectivity to the rider’s smartphone for navigation display and music and call control. The AK550 Premium holds 14.5 liters of fuel in the tank, while the seat height is set at 785mm and two color options are offered: black and flat brown.
