2025 World Series Game 1 thread: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Toronto Blue Jays

The World Series is finally here! After a grueling 162-game regular season and an exciting playoff field, it all comes down to this as the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Toronto Blue Jays.

It has been 32 years since Toronto last went to the World Series, when they won the title in 1993. Since then, it’s been a mix of good years that failed to make the playoffs and disappointing years. However, 2025 could be their time, as a combination of strong pitching and an explosive offense gave them the best record in the American League.

They will send rookie starter Trey Yesavage (2-1, 4.20 ERA) to the mound to kick off Game 1. Drafted 20th overall in 2024, Yesavage has quickly lived up to his prospect status. In six starts between the regular season and the postseason, he has proven to be a quality starter with an electric arsenal. In 15 playoff innings, he has 22 strikeouts against seven walks. With the unorthodox performance and potential of some of the shaky command, Yesavage will have to be careful with his mistakes against a veteran Dodgers lineup.

The Dodgers are looking to become the first team since the 2000 New York Yankees to win back-to-back World Series titles. After beating the Yankees in 2024, the Dodgers navigated a regular season riddled with pitching injuries and a shaky bullpen to win another NL West division title and reach the playoffs. Competing as a Wild Card team may have proven fruitful for them, as they have had a relatively windy time in the postseason, winning two of their series and losing only one game so far.

They will send one of their many top prospects, Blake Snell (3-0, 0.86 ERA), to the mound for the start. Snell was virtually undefeated in the postseason, allowing just two runs on six hits in 21 innings. His experience and viciousness were on full display with 19 strikeouts against four walks, and he is coming off a start in which he pitched eight scoreless innings. He last faced the Blue Jays in August, when he pitched five scoreless innings at home. In his career, he owns a 2.39 ERA in 16 starts against Toronto with a 2.63 ERA at Rogers Centre.
