2025 UEFA Under-21s euro: quarterfinals roundup

Roundup of quarter-final action on 2025 UEFA under-21-euro hung in the balance of the semi-final places.

With a group stage promotion, the attention of UEFA under the age of 21 2025 turned to the business end of the tournament with four mass quarter-finals, which saw many goals and comebacks in the midst of red cards.

Portugal 0-1 Netherlands

The Netherlands conquered a 21st minute red card for Ruben van Bommel to take an 84th minute winner through replacement, Ernest Poku, after the attacker who brought away the overhead pass from Ian Maatsen who had captured the defense of Portugal.

Spain 1-3 England

Early strikes of James Mcatee and Harvey Elliott eventually saw the young lions of Carsley overcome 3-1 over Spain in a rematch of the final of 2023, because the injury time penalty of Elliot Anderson confirmed their semi-final place after Javi Guerra had offered the 39e-minute Penalty.

The victory of England meant that they would meet the Netherlands in the opening semi-final on Wednesday 25 June at 5 pm BST in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Denmark 2-3 France

Mathys Tel sealed a comeback victory for France with an 85th minute winner over Denmark, after he was leveled twice from behind by Djaoui Cisse and Quentin Merlin after Clement Bischoff and Oliver Sørensen put the Danes in the front.

Germany 3-2 (AET) Italy

Merlin Rohl curled in an extra-time 117th minute winner to dismiss Germany past Italy in a heavy draw that was arranged by his strike of Nathaniel Brown’s pass.

Comeback goals from Nick Woltemade and Nelson Weiper saw Germany coming from behind to lead Italy after the opener of Luca Koleosho, only for Giuseppe Ambrosino’s 96th minutes free kick to force extra time for the Nine-men Italians after Red Cards for Wilfried Gnonto and Mattia Zanotti.

Germany will be confronted in the second semifinal on 25 June at 9 p.m. (8 p.m. BST) in Kosice, Slovakia in the second semifinal.
