The Toyota Prius Nightshade edition of 2025 stands out as a stylish evolution of a vehicle that is once known to look strange. This current fifth generation model builds on the innovative redesign from 2023 that transformed the Prius into a more aerodynamic and visually attractive vehicle. With its slender lines and sporting attitude, the Prius now runs in a way that previous versions have never done. The Nightshade Edition further takes the design by adding exclusive black accents that give it an edgy urban atmosphere that is perfect for drivers who want efficiency without sacrificing the cool factor.

Prius
Offered with a choice of front-wheel or four-wheel drive and fuel consumption that makes long-term commuting easier for your budget, the Prius manages to remain relevant in a world with an increasing number of hybrid options. There is a lot to be found in the Prius, but no car is perfect. Here are five things about this economical hatchback that I loved, and one thing that drove me crazy.
Five things I loved
Stylish black nightshade -accents
The Nightshade edition raises the Prius with its range of black outdoor finishes that add a touch of refinement. From the black-finished 19-inch alloy wheels to the dark accents on the grid and the mirrors, this upholstery is more striking. It is a subtle but effective way to give the Prius a little extra punch without going overboard. The general design feels modern, whereby the dated elements of the earlier generation are thrown away, so that it stands out for the wrong reasons.
The Nightshade edition also offers an exclusive color, Karashi, a kind of mustard color. It is not a shy color and it is not for everyone. Fortunately they offer Midnight Black Metallic and Wind Chill Pearl for those who don’t like the idea of seeing their car from space.
Impressive ratings of fuel consumption
Fuel consumption has always been the great artificial bait of the Prius, and that remains the model year 2025. Figures vary per trim, whereby the front-wheel drive leads the setup with an EPA-estimated 57/56/57 City/Highway/combined. The Nightshade AWD is one of the least efficient of the party on 49/50/49 respectively, which is still a large fuel consumption.
Part of the drop comes from the addition of four -wheel drive, which cannot be avoided. The front -wheel drive version of the night damage is 52 mpg across the board, which is perhaps the right way if you don’t drive where the snow falls. There are also ECO drive modes, normal and power, so that you can choose how much you want to weaken the performance in the name of fuel consumption.
Spacious loading room
There is 23.8 cubic foot cargo space in the Le -Trim, but the rest of the line -up has 20.3 cubic foot behind the rear seats. Those seats also pay 60/40 for extra loading flexibility. This is a hatchback, although at first glance it looks like a sedan, making it easier to store large things that may not fit into a traditional trunk.
A Tonneau cover for the loading space is standard in the Line -Up to keep precious items out of sight, just like a loading area light so that you can even see at night. A power lift gate is standard on the limited finish. This is not a large vehicle, but it is great to manage freight.
Qi wireless charging
Everything except the basic finish of the Prius includes Qi wirelessly charging. This is a supplement to six USB-C loading gates that are standard on all decorations. There are two gates at the back, two in the center console and two in the front, so there is no shortage of options when it comes to charging everyone.
The location of that wireless charger is also good. Some vehicles do not make the place safe enough, so your phone will probably slide away when you take a sharp turn. In the Prius there is a lock on the center console that holds your phone carefully, regardless of how winding the road.
Available 12.3-inch Infotainment Touchscreen
The standard infotainment system on the Prius includes an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple car and Android Auto, Wi-Fi Hotspot connectivity and an audio system with 6 speakers. The limited trim adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen, along with a JBL Premium audio system with eight speakers.
That more premium setup is also available as an option on the XLE and the Nightshade, and it is a major improvement. Especially when you follow a complex driving route, the larger screen makes it much easier to stay on course.
Strong strength and good treatment
Power for the Prius comes from a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with electric motors. Trims of four -wheel drive supply 196 Net System PorsPower, while models for the front -wheel drive come in with 194 hp. Anyway, this makes the Prius a surprising Peppy vehicle for something that sets such a large focus on fuel consumption.
It has a good gear that makes it easy to get to the speeds on the highway and even gives you a little extra strength if you need to pass slower vehicles. It also treats well, and although it is not overly sporty, it is still responsive enough to make winding country roads fun to drive instead of a job.
One thing I hated
Engine noise that knocks on the ears
Engine noise in the Prius stands out as an unwanted burglary. At low speeds, it is noticeable as an always present background noise. It is not overwhelming, but it is something that you will notice.
During hard acceleration and at highway speeds, the sound becomes an excerpt with a rough note so that you wonder if the Prius has the challenge. Although the vehicle reacts in terms of pure acceleration, the engine sound sounds like it is working too hard.
The verdict
The Toyota Prius is no longer the only hybrid on the block, with a lot of competition from Sedans, SUVs and trucks. To keep it competitive, Toyota refined it with a better style and better functions. It still has the impressive fuel consumption that made it so popular in the first place, and it just looks a lot better. It is a reliable option when it comes to hybrids, as long as you don’t mind the engine sound.
