Tommy Fleetwood, famous Winless on the PGA Tour, joked at the beginning of this week about making his first victory the Tour Championship and the Fedex Cup title to start up. But after two rounds on East Lake, nobody’s joking.
Fleetwood came out in the second round and made eight Birdies, including six on the rear nine, to shoot a seven-under 63 on Friday. His sparkling finish brought him to 13 and saw him rocket completely on the leaderboard In a draw for the first place.
Elsewhere on the track, Rory McIlroy still had a solid round to improve up to seven. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who started the two shots of the leadership, could not evoke the same magic he found in round 1. Scheffler shot a one-under 69 to go back the weekend at eight, five shots.

Fleetwood will share the last combination on Saturday with Russell Henley, who shot a 66 on Friday to bind Fleetwood for the lead. They go for round 3 at 3 p.m. et.
