Urho often got to the Rangers as the most important return to the Jacob Trouba trade. With little to no expectations, often hadananen which was essentially a stress -free debut and the first season with the Rangers. The 1st round Pick 2017 did not look so bad on a terrible defense and placed 2-13-15 in 46 games in usually third few minutes with rotating defense partners. Given the low expectations, everything that was experienced as better than Trouba was a victory, and it is safe to call this a victory for Urho often.
Usually combined with Braden Schneider (523 toi), the duo was actually much better together than they were apartBut that can only be due to small sample sizes. Oftenananen played no more than 33 minutes with another defender (Will Borgen), so it is difficult to put value in his figures from Schneider. The duo did not have great statistics of the possession, but nobody in the Rangers Blue Line outside Adam Fox had good property numbers.
Urho oftenaananen does not have much ceiling, which is fine. So it is worth diving into how he can hold a place for next season. Based on a big shift in how the Rangers play defensive, oftenaananen can actually play a legitimate role at Mike Sullivan. He is even low, defends first and has a decent sufficient skills with denying zone submissions.
What Urho often brings to the Rangers is some stability in their defensive depth. He will not add much offense, but he can defend zone -good enough that the right partner can bring out better total figures. It is a bit similar to how Carson Soucy had a solid additional skills on Adam Fox. It is a bit a bit, but at least frequentlyaanins can skate much better than Soucy.
There is not much to evaluate here. Oftenaaninen is what he is, and it will be interesting to see how the Rangers use him with his new contract.
