Continuous report season season and the theme of players no longer at the Rangers, we dive in the Jimmy Vesey Report Card. Vesey was a solid surprise for the Rangers and turned from a PTO into a solid return of two and a half season on Broadway. Vesey asked him everything, played in the top six, lower six and then found a solid role in the fourth rule prior to the 2024-2025 season. By last season he was a spait. A good, but still a space.
Vesey’s relegation to save ahead was not due to everything he did on the ice. He was just surpassed by Adam Edstrom, who effectively took his place last season. In all honesty for Vesey there should have been a better rotation with Matt Rempe and/or Jonny Brodzinski on the fourth rule, but it is difficult to argue against playing the children. Edstrom in particular was solid.
Vesey ended last season with four goals and six points in 33 games before being treated with Ryan Lindgren to Colorado. It was far away from his two 25-point seasons prior to the 2024-2025 season, but with less ice age fewer points.

That said, Vesey did Decay last season. It is hard to say how much it was due to the absolute train wreck that was the Rangers last year, but there was a dip in his game. Given that this year he has problems finding an NHL lane and he only played 10 games with Colorado, there can be some decline in his game. But for his 2.5 seasons at the Rangers he was solid.
For our Jimmy Vesey report card from 2024-2025 I will do something else. He played half the minutes he did last season, and although there was a dip, there was not much time to have him recovered. Perhaps it is a bias, and I give it good to admit that, I think it is a better approach to look at his role and perhaps why his figures have received a hit.
Vesey spent most of his time this season with Sam Carrick and Adam Edstrom, and De Lijn was particularly effective. But where Vesey started to show some signs of regression were in his giveaway actionsHe almost tripled from the 1.2 giveaway actions from last season/60 to 3.32. His collection restaurants/60 halved from 1.69 to 0.87. Put those two together, and you have more high danger opportunities, and you influence his number with the Rangers. The Omzetratio was not only a Vesey problem, but it certainly had an influence on his statistics on the ice with the Rangers.
For what it is worth, his giveaway/collection ratio improved considerably when he was traded to Colorado.
Vesey was an effective ranger for his last two full seasons on Broadway. Unfortunately, just like the rest of the team, he forgot last season how he could protect the puck. It was not isolated for Vesey, but it is also a fact that he went backwards, specifically with turnover.
