It is Augustus, and that means that football is almost in the air. As soon as that starts, ICE will be ready and hockey will be played. For the Boston Bruins there is plenty to pay attention to during the 2025-26 season. We have discussed how they stack themselves under their division, and now we will dive into what they need to improve the most if they want better success compared to the 2024-25 season.
The Power Play must have life
If the Bruins ever had the chance to have the Power Play, it would have been much better if they had forfeited it and continue to play the game on five-on-five. Their Power Play was terrible, in 29th place in the competition and a success rate of 15.2%. It doesn’t mean they had an Elite Power Play. Since the 2021-22 season, they consistently have a success rate of 22.2%, so they were often placed in the middle of the peloton. Last season, however, was just terrible, and much of it had to do with his predictability.

Seeing Mason Lohrei would get more power play opportunities enormously. In the absence of Charlie Mcavoy, he flourished in that role and looked fluently that the Power Play ran. De Bruins have talented players, with pastrnak, Morgan Geekie and Elias Lindholm, so there is no reason for the Power Play to be completely incompetent. If the Bruins are fainting in benefiting the male benefit, they must be better in generating infringement in general.
Generating a better violation in general
It all comes down to talent, and the Bruins miss that compared to the rest of the teams in their division. Although, they are not completely exhausted to the point where they don’t have boys who can step and deliver on the board. Many young people could be counted on this season, with Fabian Lysell, Matthew Poitras and Fraser Minten who compete for places on the main class roster. The three alone would give the Bruins a new dimension of youth and skills that they did not have last season. Target score was at a layer for the Bruins, in 27th place in the competition. Moreover, they could not end the season and ended the season with a negative-14.78 goals that are scored above. Pastrnak and Geekie can’t do it all, so the Bruins need more impact in the target scores department. However, the attack goes further than just their target score.
This team did not do well to possess the puck, and when they had the puck, they did very little with it. NHL Edge has recorded countless statistics For De Bruins from an attacking point of view. In general, they finished under 50th percentiles in Schoten on goal, goals and shooting percentage. Many of their shots came from lower habitual areas and they will want to improve their presence of high danger. Last season they fell under the 50th percentile in Schoten on Doel, so creating a better presence in those areas will be huge.
The additions of boys like Tanner Jeannot can help. He scored seven of his goals from the area with high overdays, and a large part of his shots on goal was also a high danger. Viktor Arvidsson is also a player with a shoot-first mentality that creates offense in the high-grot areas of the ice.
They must not only improve the attack in those areas, but they must also improve the defense.
Better defense of high surviving
De Bruins were defensively horrible during the 2024-25 season. Often they would get lost in coverage and teams would party on the opportunities they had in the high-grot areas of the ice. They allowing the 17th high-danger attempts during five-on-five play, and if you look at the Hitt cards from their defensive coverage, you can see how often teams got their appearance in the high-grot areas of the ice.
Teams mainly remained on the circumference, but they could find open passing lanes to get the puck to the inner slot. The opposition has done a great job to get closer to the goalkeepers. They have never been corrected, but with a healthier blue line and a new coaching staff, this should improve this during the coming season.
Improving these areas can improve their record
De Bruins will not be the most talented team on the ice, but they can still work and compete hard. Repairing their power play is going a long way, and if they improve in the high-grot areas of the ice, it will bring them into a better position to be successful.
