Almost two months after COmmunal violence rocked Murshidabad in West Bengalen District During Anti-Waqf demonstrations, the police arrested two men on Tuesday who are the Master Brain of the April protest that the unrest led.
According to police sources, it was arrested duo, Kausar Sheikh and Mursalim Sheikh, involved in mobilizing the crowd that had gathered at SamSheranj’s roof bungalow intersection to protest against the WAQF (amendment) act. Both are inhabitants of Samshanganj and would be linked to an NGO.
The police said they have held a local campaign to attract people to the protest site.
The two were produced on Tuesday in the Jangipur Sub-Divisional Court, where the police were looking for their custody for further interrogation.
The April protest became violent after collisions broke out between the police and the protesters during anti-WAQF demonstration.
The WAQF (amendment) ACT, 2025, was adopted by parliament after long debates and received the president’s approval on 5 April. The WAQF ACT at, 1995, which deals with the management of WAQF property in India. The changes are aimed at keeping track of better data, resolving disputes and improving supervision.
There were pan-India protests about the WAQF law, in which the demonstration became violent in Bengal.
Various stores that are owned by Hindus were attacked in Samshanganj, which led to large -scale arson, looting and three dead.
The unrest later spread to Bhangar in the South 24 Parganas district, where supporters of the Secular Front in India caught fire with the police and vehicles after they had stopped marching to Kolkata.
There were paramilitary troops in the aftermath, including the Border Security Force and Central Reserve Police Force, used to control the situation.
