15-year-old Oakland girl killed in car crash in East Oakland

A 16-year-old Oakland man was arrested on charges of manslaughter and hit-and-run after back-to-back collisions ended in the death of a 15-year-old female passenger and sent three other girls to the hospital Friday morning, police said.

Authorities say a Toyota Corolla carrying the five juveniles was involved in a crash with another vehicle near the intersection of 14th Avenue and East 31st Street in Oakland around 9:40 a.m. Friday.

The 16-year-old male driver of the Toyota fled the scene and headed east on Interstate 580.

The driver who was hit by the Corolla gave chase and called police to share details about the accident.

The suspect then exited the freeway at 35th Avenue and drove south at a high rate of speed. At an intersection in the 3300 block of 35th Ave. the Corolla was struck by a third vehicle, causing it to crash into a concrete wall, authorities said.

All occupants of the Corolla were taken to hospitals. The 15-year-old girl, who was in the rear passenger seat, died less than an hour later. The circumstances of the other girls in the crash were not known Sunday morning.

The suspect was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition. The police arrested him.
