Why you need a personal brand on a busy labor market

Although that is a stunning number, it is a common appearance for companies with well -paid jobs with a great corporate culture. In the current labor market, many job seekers are discouraged to know that they are competing against hundreds (if not thousands) applicants.

For some roles, a resume will only bring you that far. A personal brand helps you stand out before you ever request a job, making the tip of the application process to your advantage.

You can break out of the CV -Mal

CVs often have very prescriptive formats. You have probably heard the common advice: keep it on one page, mark your performance, make it easy to read. Nowadays, CVs are often entered directly into a tracking system of the applicant – so every creativity is stripped, and a RV reviewer sees only text.

Yet many companies have a required field on their applications: the URL of your LinkedIn profile.

You can shine here. Everyone can have a polished headshot, colorful banner and interesting head. But you can distinguish yourself with a fascinating “Over” section, links to projects in the “Featured” section and recommendations of former colleagues.

Your LinkedIn profile is like your CV with a microphone. Instead of waiting passively for someone to assess your work, you strengthen it.

To do this, you must of course make content.

Start with a small, manageable book schedule

LinkedIn can be a very intimidating place, especially if you have never shared content there. I had no specific goal in mind, but acknowledged that LinkedIn was the platform where work and opportunities took place. Eventually I started to become more strategic and shared content that showed my expertise and personality, but not until my weekly writing habit was well established.

You can bypass gatekeepers and make connections

A personal brand will open doors in a way that a CV will not do. In an intense labor market you need everything and everything that distinguishes you from other job seekers.

With a personal brand you can make connections with potential recruitment managers and rely on those connections when applying for a job. Do this before applying. Start with people in your industry or at companies for which you want to work. Contact them and keep posting content.

When a role opens, you can register and also send a DM with the text: “Hey! I just wanted to let you know that I applied for a XYZ role. Really enthusiastic about the possibility.” It can move your resume to the top of the pile.

Considerable attention

A personal brand can also bring offers directly to you – without having to register. You could attract the attention of hiring managers or recruiters who contact potential opportunities.

I am self -employed, so my experience is not the same as a traditional job seeker. Yet I can confirm that I get a considerable amount of attention on LinkedIn after a few years of building a personal brand. Connections have brought opportunities in my way that I would otherwise not have had.

Because of my content, people know who I am, understand what I am doing and trust that my personal brand matches my work ethics.
